I currently came across a 175 mercury vapor bulb. Seeing as how i have 46 plants under two 125w plant lights and 4 4 foot flouros running...i need more light. My question is a two parter:
Is a MV bulb any good for growing?
Where would i go for the socket size? (Ace apparently ISNT the place for home gardening:? )

I used MV back in the 80's they do work as thats what everyone used back in the day. I do know that they put off allot of heat (just like any HID). I had decent results with them but the newer MH/HPS systems are far Superior to a MV in yield and the correct spectrum. You can find MV accessories at most local hardware store like Lowe's and Menard's but the best place is the small MOM and POP hardware stores as they will special order items for you. Then nothing is delivered to your home and you can give the hardware store a fake name (if your worried) and have nothing to fear as your supplies are delivered to them.

I would say that for the money just get a MH or a HPS it is just not worth it. If you are dead set about using it then go ahead as they do work, but with less yield than systems would produce.

Grow Lights Hydroponics Garden Supplies - Inside Sun has HPS systems for $120.00 and would blow any MV systems socks off.
