Metal Halide Vegetative 6500K vs. other MH Kelvin's

I have yet to find (and I have searched plenty) any kind of evidence that shows clearly the difference in growth a plant gets in different types of light.

I am not doubting that 6500k is prime for veg growth but I'd like to see why since I recently invested in 2 mh 6500k bulbs.

So I'm looking to see if anyone knows anything about the topic or can show me and others why the heck we should worry about the color temp of our bulbs.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

all mh specs are 6500k... some have extra red light which helps more and the spec may be a little different on those. with mh bulbs they concentrate on the new growth and vegitative growth of the plant because it simulates the specs we recieve from the sun durring spring and half of summer, hps have a color spec of 2700k unless they have extra blue light in them which also helps more. the 2700k spec simulates the specs we reciev from the sun in the last half of summer and the beginning of fall.... this is because we are closer to the sun durring spring and the first half of sumer than the second half of sumer and fall... we are just being hit by different wavelengths from the sun, and thats all the bulbs give off... different wavelengths. in an ideal setup there would be even numbers of mh and hps bulbs for both veging and flowering, this would increase yield, health, and overall outcome of your plants.

if you only go with one lamp it should be a hps tho. this helps more in flowering and creates larger, denser budds. but it does keep the plant somewhat shorter and less bushy than with an mh. using an mh in flowering would result in smaller, airy, not too dense budds. if it were me i would have gotten an mh and a hps instead of 2 mh. but it will still work fine for growing a nice crop.

good luck and good growing! bongsmilie

Understood, I understand the power of the HPS from experience, and these 2 MH's are just for the veg room, my flowering room is well light in high pressure sodium orange.

However, I'm curious about what you said about all MH's being 6500k when there are a bunch that are in the 4000k range as well, (like one I recieved from Plus Right that was a good deal but not quite 6500k)

Do you have links to threads that have tested this out?

oh sweet then man that sounds like a killer setup. dose the bulb have extra red light that it gives off? im sure that makes the spec go down, its more violet than red or blue because the specs are mixed, and thats between the 6500k and the 2700k base so i would almost bet thats what it is. the more violet light your plant gets the better. im just going off what ive read here and in the bible... if im wrong dont hate me.

i was just saying basic, cheap, eco light type mh bulbs. there are loads of specialty bulbs for growing that have like i said, more violet light overall, making the spec between 2700 and 6500...
