i have a 150w mh and 360w of cfl.. i have seeds on the way but right now just growing one plant, which light and how much should i use right now for just this one plant

I would use both. You wouldn't harm the plant, and it would definitely appreciate the extra light.

go with hps for flowering not led your plants will thank you with a nice yield 400 watt hps is the lowest i would ever use watt for watt hps is the best for flowering bitches

CFL/Flouro for a budget grow, MH/HPS for high quality and large yield.
Not sure why you would use LED based on my research.

also depends on how high you want to let the plant get in veg. cfls cant support a tall plant.

Well, how old is it?
If its a seedling then I would use the 150w then when it gets older you should add the CFL because to much light when its sensitive it will kill it.
Just let it get its roots established then put them together.

don't think of it as lights per plant, that completely irrelevant, measure light in lux, (lumens per square meter) so you want 4000 lux for seedling, 27000 lux for veg and 107000 lux for flowering , so just caculate how much space the plant occupies, and remeber that light diminishes exsponentially in accordance with the inverse square rule http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse-square_law

cant afford 400W hps, looking at led for heat purposes, the plant is maybe 2in tall working on its 3node...i can just buy 150W hps bulb to fit in my mh fixture??
if the plants are 3 feet tall, what is the sqaure footage 5 plants would occupy

well the ballast have to match the bulb and you can't put a hps bulb in a metal halide fixture and vice versa, the power levels are set to specific levels ; for example if you put a 150w bulb into a 400w fixture it will shoot 400w through the bulb and most probably blow it up

If you can't afford a 400 HPS, you may as well forget about LEDs. The few models that are actually viable for growing weed cost a small fortune, and the cheaper ones aren't worth shit.
If you are growing on a tight budget, CFLs are your best bet, although an HPS setup will not cost that much more if you do some research, and it will pay for itself in no time at all.
If you find that "grow light" packages are too expensive, look into HPS flood lights, which are much cheaper, and do the job pretty well, with a small amount of DIY.
No matter what lighting you use, ventilation will be necessary. Even without heat buildup, you will still have humidity issues, and the plant will need a steady supply of CO2-rich air.

i can afford a 250W hps...thats what i was planning on buying, but i read where the 90W led was in comparison to the hps and less heat...i've read nOob advice...i know about lighting per sq ft. but i dont know how many sq feet 4-5 plants will occupy..b.f. lsd and white russian plants..
