Mold or just mineral deposit? *PICS*

Hello there,

This is my Pre 98 Bubba clone, so far it has acclimated to the backyard well.

As you can see there is a pretty sizable scar near the base of the stem that has been there since I got the clone. It looks like it has closed up pretty well, but from that scar downward there is a layer of white powder on the stem. I have tried to remove as much of it as I could with a q-tip and water, but it has returned twice already in the same general area.

One friend says it is mold and another says it is a mineral deposit and harmless. The plant seems pretty healthy otherwise, can anyone help with a diagnosis/solution?

Thanks a bunch, much love,

Usually mineral deposits are white in color and go away with cleaning like you did. What I see in that photo is a greenish looking mold.

Just make sure the soil does not stay wet all the time. The plant is much more resistant to dryness than any mold would be. So let the soil go bone dry some of the time and you will be ok. This is a good idea if you see some white stuff or not. You could also try cleaning it with H2O2.
