Monterey County

I'm living in Salinas now. There are no dispensaries in the entire county. Lucky I can always go to Santa Cruz, which is about a million times cooler than this area. And South San Jose is not very far, either. I've never tried the delivery services, which is all that is allowed in this county.

I plan to start growing in a closet soon. In the SFV, my main problem was spider mites, because it was hot as hell and very little humidity. I have a feeling that mold, mildew and fungus are going to be a major hassle here. Plus I'm right in the middle of a highly productive farm region, so I wonder if that will result in more pests and diseases for my plants.

I lived right next to them strawberry fields for years. Mites kicked my ass for years, just gotta learn how to get rid of them. And routinely spray to keep them away. The temps there make it to where stevie wonder could grow indoor, but your definately going to have humidity issues. Dehu's are a must. Growing outdoor is a mofo to, that fog rolls in almost every morning And bamm! bud rot, if you don't grow mostly sativas. I absolutely killed it while living there. But salinas sucks sorry

Thanks. I hope I can eventually grow a few indicas here, but if not, sativas will have to do. I guess I better stock up on mite killers and fungicide.

If anyone is interested in growing in this area, I wanted to report that I went to a couple dispensaries near Santa Cruz. I got 10 Godfather seeds from Santa Cruz Mountain Naturals and all but 2 germinated, so far. Good selection of seeds there. I also went to California Growers Collective in Soquel and bought 4 Fire clones. CGC has about a dozen other strains cloned, including LA Confidential and Romulan. Both places have decent flowers as well, and edibles and concentrates. You can look them both up on WeedMaps.

Grow strains that work well in Santa Cruz(where i was born and raised). You wouldn't think Salinas and SC are similar, as salinas is 20 min from the ocean. But the fog can roll in just as thick in both places, and all surrounding areas.

If I'm growing indoors, inside a closet, would it be dry enough to grow indicas? I've been in another town that was a lot closer to the ocean, and it got so humid there that anything made of leather would get moldy as hell, like shoes, belts etc.

Oh, you can grow any strain you want to, and it will work, but bud rot will usually dictate when you have to chop. That used to piss me off! Just make room for a dehu, it's all good. Wasn't trying to scare you.
The good news is, the water(even though it's 250ish ppm) is killer. Just remember about keeping those mite's away. Those mite's from those fields, are the definition of the borg. Don't even bother with pyrethrins. As they crop dust with that shit.

I live in north Salinas, fairly close to Strawberry Fields. I'm thinking of spraying my babies with Capt. Jack's Dead Bug (spinosad) to get ahead of those damn spider mites. Also, I'm seriously considering buying predatory mites and letting them go outside my apartment where I keep all my non-Prop. 215 plants (cactus/succulent collection). Just because the cat and I go outside to the patio every day, then the cat likes to sneak into the closet and poke around the plants or sleep under the nice warm light. She could be carrying around hundreds of the little bastards.

If you want to attract beneficial mites next season plant fava beans with your girls. I have read that beans fix nitrogen in soil, but favas when attaced by spidermites, send off a chemical that attracts beneficial mites to kill the spidermites. Im going to be experimenting with this in the next season. I know you have the problem now but this is just for future reference. How far along are you into flower? I use a habinero water spray if im not too far into flower when dealing with the buggers.

Right now I'm still vegging, but I've been wanted to grow favas for a while now anyway, just out of curiosity. If Hannibal Lecter likes them, they gotta be good.

What strains you runnin?
Right now I have 4 Fire clones vegging in a closet and 8 un-sexed Godfather seedlings under another set of lights. Right now I'm sticking to strains that I know from LA area. At some point I want to plant a 10-pack of Mexican sativas from Sensi seeds, but those are more for outdoors, which I'm not doing for the time being.

If anyone cares, I went to Herbal Cruz in Capitola and they had a bunch of clones for sale, $12 each, plus seeds from CDB and Mr. Nice. I wish I could remember all the strains they had cloned, but I think Sour Diesel was one of them. It's a pretty decent joint.
