Monthly day to A'dam

Driving back home yesterday I realized I made a habit out of going monthly to Amsterdam. Saving quite a bit of money growing my own for me and the wife so end up spending some more on day trips, to coffeeshops... :eyesmoke:

Usually don't arrive until after 18:00, which is after most shops and stores close. I've been at a closed door of DNA Genetics for 2 times already, yesterday we went a bit earlier and I finally bought some seeds. Skywalker Kush and LA Chocolate. Not sure if I'm going to use them next round, might do a quickie with clones first (still 4-5 weeks to go for current grow).

We usually visit 4-5 coffeeshops in 8 to 10 hours time. We try to pick them upfront as it it easy to waste time in Amsterdam just walking. Yesterday we visited/bought/smoked the following list. Going to keep the smoke reports super simple as it's a. a matter of taste and b. what I smoked yesterday will be different from what someone else buys next week or even tomorrow and c. I smoked them all on the same day...

Kadinsky (multiple small coffeeshops in Amsterdam) - Not as overpriced as some others. Got S5 (tastes like a lite version of Amnesia Haze, quality smoke but the effect is rather "restless") and White Russian (damn nice, grow candidate despite it having WW as a parent, oldskool smell with newskool taste).

S5 at the bottom (they asked to make sure if I didn't mind the smaller buds) and that one nugget is the White Russian.

Kadinsky (another one that supposedly had more hash on the menu) - Trans Himalayan (or something close :eyesmoke: ). Black hashish, very strong, tastes good as well. I prefer the effect of lighter colored local hash (Pollen, also referred to as Pollum), that still allows me to work, talk (with the occasional laughter), sit straight up etc. This black paste is highly recommended if you have high tolerance or sleeping disorders. Best zip I bought yesterday (not too pricey either, roughly $14 per gram). I don't smoke a lot of hash because I end up burning my couch and clothes, like just NOW. $200 sweater I bought 2 weeks ago, spot is on my bicep so clearly visible:

Starting to become standard on my list, very small shop, like in the old days, not "touristinized". Wanted to get the Pineapple Haze like previous times, but was sold out so settled for Vanilla Haze. Turned out to be good, but couldn't detect the vanilla taste. Uplifting effect, one I could smoke most of the day.

Barney's Farm
Cannot recommend their seeds (currently growing Liberty Haze, horrible germination results, 2 runts of which one is the most fucked up I've ever seen. It makes Dr. Grinspoon look good...), and the weed (as well as the coffee) in their coffeeshops is overpriced (but from a good clone...). Like 2-3 euros on top of what you pay elsewhere. BUT, they got a volcano vaporizer on every table, and the cutest girls to explain how to use them. When I go to BF I just figure I pay (extra for the weed) for the use of those (the volcanos, not the girls). As usual I got the Tangerine Dream ($20 per gram...). Whether I roll it or put it in the volcano, it tastes really well and the effect is strong and long lasting.

De Haven van Texel - not a coffeeshop, but a restaurant, at the end/start of the red light district. Photo from where I was sitting:

Already created next month's list, which will include the oldest and first coffeeshops in Amsterdam (and the Netherlands).

roken is doodlijk means smoking is the shit in dutch..

use to want to go to Amsterdam just for the coffee shops.. now I just buy the folgers instant brew bags and smoke out in the backyard.. leaving the house is highly over rated..

$200.00 sweater?? I dont think my entire wardrobe has a single item over 20$ and that was probably a gift..

Dodelijk means 'deadly', it's one of the mandatory lines on cigarette packages. The other side of the package says: "Protect your children: don't let them inhale your smoke" (frankly never read that one before...). Some packages will give you cancer, others will make you impotent.

I would actually recommend coffeeshops outside Amsterdam (in other cities) for better priced quality, but I just love walking baked through Amsterdam. So many different cultures and faces.

Oh I agree, I work from home. We're also having the coldest May ever measured here, nearly freezing point last night while normally around this time of year I'd be getting a tan :blsmoke:

It's organic [cotton]! :D I cannot even buy a sweater for $20 if I wanted to (that's a little over a gram of quality weed, can you buy 25 sweaters for the price of an oz?). $200 (roughly 150 euros) for a quality men's sweater (it's a thick hoodie) really isn't 'that' much here. That's why dutch tourists come back from the States with three times the luggage. Packed with clothing, electronics (cameras, Macbooks and ipods) and in the past CDs. Shit's expensive here and the skewed $- € exchange rate and import taxes add to it.

Just a personal dislike, though not an uncommon one here. White Widow was the most popular in our coffeeshops for over a decade. Had too much of it for too long. Started out great, ended with a not so good name. People who don't know what to choose from the menu in a coffeeshop here pick White Widow. Don't know what it is, sell it as White Widow. Want a cheap couch lock, get White Widow. Most self-respecting coffeeshops here do not even sell it anymore. Obviously doesn't mean it can't be a good parent, I just prefer to avoid ww entirely and with all the (so much better) options nowadays that's easy enough.

A few months ago I was at a local grow shop to pick up some Shining Silver Haze seeds. Sold out. Guy looks at me - clearly embarrassed to even suggest it so made it semi-jokingly: "we still have White Widow seeds..."

I had a pheno a few years ago of ww that was spectacular. It wasn't the couch lock variety that you speak of, very up, very clean come down, no drowsiness or that meh feeling. I regret not propagating it. A buddy of mine has been cloning the same wwxbig bud that came from the 'Dam about 15 years ago. Still a kick ass smoke, though another friend is always bagging on the WW even though he slings mexican brick.

Yeah that sure sounds like a winner. WW does have some nice characteristics, and it's a relatively easy one to grow and get high yields with good bag appeal (partly why it got so popular here, weed for the masses. I compared it to cheap beer more than once). But it gets the job done in more than one way.

drowsiness or that meh feeling.
Yup, that's the one. Leaves me with zero creativity.

Recently found an interesting document from 2012 from a reputable research institute, contracted by the government to test the THC concentration in the weed and hash sold in coffeeshops (based on testing 50 random shops for about a decade). It's all in Dutch and this Himalayan hash is making even my fingers heavy so I'll keep it short.

Import hash contains on average 16.1% THC, Dutch hash contains on average 35% THC and the 'Netherweed' 15.5%. Up until 2004 the THC % of Dutch weed increased every year, after that it stabilized to 15.5-18% (and after decades of trying to max THC the breeders started focussing on taste and variation).

Point being: 2004 was a good year (over 20% average THC) :eyesmoke: Edit: and half the price... bongsmilie
