MONTREAL Montreal police made what they say is one of the biggest seizures of marijuana in the forces history Tuesday.
Constable Olivier Lapointe said police raided two warehouses, one in a ground-floor office in a building on Casgrain Ave., near Maguire St., and the other on the seventh floor of a building on De Gaspé Ave., also near Maguire in the Plateau Mont Royal borough starting about 9:45 a.m.
A total of 10,100 plants were seized along with thousands of dollars worth of hydroponic growing equipment. When mature, a marijuana plant will sell on the street for about $1,000.
This was the result of a months-long investigation, Lapointe said, after police received a tip from a resident.
A 55-year-old man was arrested yesterday. He is expected to be charged in court Wednesday with cultivating marijuana.
Lapointe said he doesnt know what the target market for the marijuana was, but he said the man who was arrested doesnt have any known ties to organized crime.
He said the investigation will continue, and there could be more arrests in the weeks to come.
