Lol, wow. They don't give a fuck about what anybody thinks. They're determined to keep the war on drugs going, dumb ass politicians. The leaders in South America are trying to help us and our politicians just say no immediately.

i have heard of more than one south american president who is on our side - they see the misery that prohibition has caused first hand.. i have a feeling that they will also extend decriminalization to other drugs also like Mexico has..

We have Mitt Romeney who has to by Faith believe the Earth is about 5000 years old and wears Magic Underware.

It really is a screw-job we have about the war on drugs.

Obama says that if factions in certain countries were allowed to operate legally, it could be just as corrupting, if not more corrupting than the status quo. Therefore, let's stick with the status quo of us paying $12 billion+ a year fighting a drug war vs. cartels that are basically operating with hardly any opposition. (pretty much legally)

Face it! The US Government will never come out and legalize weed. It will take a large majority of the 50 states doing what CA, OR, WA and CO are doing -- striving to make it legal in their particular state.

I've been watching this issue evolve over the past 25 years, and others my age would confirm that the movement towards full decriminalization is accelerating. We aren't close yet, and the fickle electorate can reverse direction at any time; just the same, this is the best political environment I have seen for weed ever. Frankly, I think the slower we go (medical mj and building national decriminalization state by state) the better the chance that progress will be permanent.

The sad thing is lives being ruined every year as a consequence of the failed 'war on drugs.' I can deal with a bit of cloak and dagger with my grow, but I pity those fucked by our legal system.

It is still not mainstream knowledge that hemp is a hugely useful plant. People still believe it's only use is as a narcotice like cocaine and heroin, and readily accept it when their favorite politician throws weed in with the others as illicit drugs.

I think it will get there eventually, but it has to become legal in a few states first. Once that happens, mainstream will slowly become aware that it's more than a pesky drug from which they must protect the children.

Most Bible thumpers believe that the earth is not much older than that, so it's not just Mormons. ...not that I'm defending Mormon beliefs.

years ago, a low level conflict built and built in the land of Vietnam
then(as now), the driving force was no American president wanted to be the president who history would record as the president that lost Vietnam
it was known for a long time what the result was going to be, but that didn't stop the flow of money/weapons/bombs
but eventually failed wars end, and this war too shall pass

Weed is nothing but compitition to industries that have a huge lobby over our government. The money is large enough that our politicians are happy to keep weed down. That's why progress is so slow. The only thing that can break that hold is that the mainstream of people in America are clued into all that weed can do. You know what it does, and I know what it does, but our neighbors and their family and friends don't know. They're starting to get it though. I'm seeing progress. When they (mainstream) see that an entire state has legalized weed in the face of the US Government, the movement will gain momentum. Donate to the orgs in those states that have proposals on the ballot.

I saw that FOX's Shepard Smith was discussing it yesterday with the lawyers. I didn't catch it all, but it appeared to be a positive overall segment. 6 months ago, FOX was reporting that weed could kill you. I call that progress.
