mothballs and sevin dust ?

i am thinking for this summers small crop about spreading mothballs and sevin dust on the ground AROUND the plants but not on them,to keep squirrels and rabbits out because those are really the only 2 critters im gonna have to worry about besides insects.im just wondering if it would be bad on the soil for the plant.any thoughts ar advice would be greatly appreciated.:peace:

Moth balls work great, also if you have a dog . Brush it keep hair then put fist fulls in pantyhose and put near patches,i always lose a few though, what is seven dust

sevin dust is insect dust that u r supposed to put ON the plants,so i figure if it keeps them off plants maybe itll keep them away from the ground the plants are planted in if spread around.and the mothballs will be no where around the root ball, just in a circumfrence around the plants.thanks.
