Yep some people say soil but I don't think it matters as long as its alive and healthy with at least 18h of light reaching it. I would use hempy for my mothers.

yup tru alive and 18 hours of light......i go 24/7 light and i have mine in 5gal buckets.....ust heep them fed once every 2 weeks or so and plets of water with alot of light.....and i would flush them every 3 weeks...gl...

I go the soil route as I feel it's easier and I'm not all that concerned with explosive growth. Just water when it looks/feels dry. I cut them back every couple weeks even if I don't need any clones. Helps them branch out more and give more cutting sites per mother.
