M's Simple AK47

Hi everyone. My plant has survived 8 days from sprout and I've decided to start a grow journal. If my plant makes it to harvest I intend on creating a printable PDF journal for new growers to reference.

I have grown outdoors a few times, with minimal effort and have decided to expand my horizons and attempt an indoor grow. To this point I never considered an indoor grow because it just wasn't feasible for me to tear up my house running ducting, ventilation, and the fire hazard involved with HID lighting in enclosed spaces.

Now that compact fluorescents are available and are cost & safety effective, I'm going to take the leap.

The AK47 seed was placed in a wet paper towel inside a DVD case for approximately 72 hours on top of a DVR unit. As you can see, the taproot has appeared and is ready to go root down into the medium.

About 72 hours after the taproot was planted into the medium, a tiny sprout emerged from the soil.

NOTE: My tap water (well) is highly alkaline (treated by a whole house Hague Water Treatment system) and the MG soil is highly acidic. I prepared 1 gallon of water at a pH of 7.2 and I had to add vinegar to get it that acidic! The seedling received 2 tablespoons of this water every day until vegetation began on day 6.

2 Extra CFLs were added into the fixture today to try to bring the temperature up a few degrees. It was dipping below 70F. The tiny fan leaves have emerged and they have the trademark cannabis ridges.

I see that you read Seymore Buds book. Gotta tell ya, the way we did our lights are ALL wrong! I figured out the correct way of using CFL's. Ya gotta use a hood, if yer gonna do yer light like that. Check out my grow, let me know if ya got ANY q's!

The temperature jumped today in the closet to over 80F. I added an extra fan and opened a window to decrease the temperature. I can see this is going to be a daily struggle.

The new fan leaves are now bigger than the original sprout leaves. I realized today that I was using the wrong CFLs (Bright White 3500K) so I switched to 6500K Daylights. I removed all the lights except the 2 center lights in the Y-Splitter so I could get the light real close to the young leaves.

New growth is explosive today. New Nodes and new leaves emerge. Today I mark the start of vegetative growth as my young seedling has graduated from infancy. Today I flooded the plant with 3/4 gallon of pH 7.4 room temperature water. Nearly half of this ran out the holes I drilled in my container and it was discarded.

Ha, no sweat I just didn't want to loose my train of thought. Dude, your grow inspired me much more than SeeMore's book. What you were able to do in your grow was admirable!

I'm starting to recognize the weakness in the fixture design, but it's mostly my screwup. I used a (bleached) kitty litter container for my pot and I didn't fill it up high enough so there's no way for me to even use the wing lights until the plant doubles or triples in size!

No complaints today. Plant has a nice healthy green sheen and branches are emerging everywhere. I'm going to start thinking about when I should plan for flowering. I don't want to send the plant into hermaphroditic shock by forcing flowering but I also don't want this plant to grow wild and if this level of growth continues then I'll have no other choice.

you do not want to flower before the 3rd node! I waited for 5 w/mine, and w/the exception of the few BIG girls, they all stayed below 18"
