My Grow Box Construction
Parts used:
1) 35L X 11W X 30H two door cabinet …$FREEBIE$ (Was in my laundry room before the remodel)
2) 150W HPS security light …$FREEBIE$(Was found in my shed when I got the house)
3) Fireproof security box…$FREEBIE$ (They were throwing it out at work)
4) Silicone caulk …$FREEBIE$ (had laying around)
5) Emergency blanket…$2.49 (local mega-mart)
6) Bath vent fan…$35.97 (local hardware store)
7) cut to fit filter...$10.60 (local hardware store)

This thing was rough; after I removed it from my laundry room I used it for paint can storage. Well, the other day I heard a crash. The paint cans collapsed the cheaply made, staple and hot glue constructed, particle board box!

I started by re-enforcing the busted seems, and cleaned it up.

Then I attached the seemingly harmless cash box, something that someone may store on top of a cabinet.

And we open the lid and…..

Next we installed the bath room vent fan..

On the inside I made a little duct out of the shelf that came in the cabinet, this will suck air from directly above the cool tube, also I am installing a pre-filter for a little extra protection. This is the mock-up

I started to install the Mylar but ran out of staples..

And a teaser…

Next we tackled the air intake…

I picked up this carbon filter, it is made to be cut to size and has a nice plastic mesh to reinforce it.

Now we cut to fit.

And the test fit..

if you found that hps setup in the garage i would buy another bulb for it asap just in case yours burns out quickly.

Yeah i used the bulb that was with to test everything, i will prob get a Hortilux or somthing. This is a slow build cause i am pour as fVck, but it gives me more time for planning, that and i am like two weeks from being a legal MMJ patient so i am not doing ANYTHING that would mess that up. I havent smoked in about a week for fear of getting poped by LEO(and losing my MMJ status). I have a small amount of JWH for when i realy want to toke but thats about it.

On tonights to do list:
1)finish Mylar
2)start on Co2 system
3)finish duct

Looks like a good start; i almost want to build another cab just because it was so fun to get out of the house and build something. Now I just have plants to look at lol.

looks good. got any more pics? what do you have left to build? there are a lot of cheap or free ways of building components. let us know what you got left

right now it is 98.9% done, then a new idea pops into my head and it goes back to 50%...lol
Here are some recent pics. I got the mylar finished, cut an air vent, and i scraped my duct after testing proved it couldn't move the air fast enough, so i modified the vent fan cover. I also installed some rubberizedcweed barrier to cover the bottom.

EPIC FIND
DSCN0624.jpgDSCN0623.jpg
For $5 at a yard sale i picked up this nice little fixture, while it was made for 150W incandescent lights, i made a few mods and now its HPS ready.
DSCN0625.jpgDSCN0597.jpg

Then i rigged this nice little filter out of a kool-aid container.

I had shots of it up and running but i forgot to pull them off the camera...more to come.

ok. my first thoughts are the intake requires no filter. yeah, it blocks light leaking in or out, but it really messes with air flow. here is a link that was posted for me https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=135524. great way to make a light filter. you dont need to buy anything. just start looking for material around that is easy to cut and has a 90 degree angle. make the dimensions similar, so about a 3/4" to 1" 90, with the material about 1/4 inch thick. molding for corners would work well but you may have to purchase it. small trash cans have 90's, and they are somewhat curved. if you can find a black material, then you dont have to worry about painting. you could make 2 of these, one to totally cover your intake on the bottom, and one to totally cover your exhaust fan. dont worry about the changing plans, we are stoners and we do it all the time. but i recommend testing your ideas before changing your plans. put it all into practice. if everything is acceptable then dont do anything, unless you find some major improvements. good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions.

thanks for the input (+rep), i put the pre-filter in for sound dampering also. bath fans are loud... how ever i was thinking about removing it to get better airflow (like you said) i like the idea of the Diy you posted. right now i am working on piping air to the light fixture via an old vacuum hose.

here are a few more tips i have learned. you dont want to build anything to be PERMANENT! you said it, we like to change our minds!! Keep it simple. there is no need in building a rocket engine to grow herb in!! your not doing that, but your piping of air sounds a little to complicated. the only times you should worry about pipping in air is if A. your intake pulls in air from the exhaust because they are to close together; or B. your exhausting into the same area your intaking, basically recirculating the air in one room with the air in your grow box!! then you would either want to bring fresh air in, or exhaust into another room or outside!! hope this helps more, and thanks for the rep. i will be keeping an eye on ya to keep ya straight!! :bigjoint:

I was piping the air to my light fixture to cut back on the heat.. in the test i did yesterday the glass got way to hot. the idea it pipe air from the exhaust to the fixture with a 1" flex tube, the air will pressurize the fixture and the pressure will cause air to vent to the grow area through the wire holes in the fixture creating an air exchange, with the exhaust fan sucking the air out of the box. Half is the air is being released into the atmosphere and the other half is being re-routed to the fixture. Also thinking about running another tube to the box just to provide supplemental air movement, the bath fan is good for 10X10 bathrooms so i know its over kill for my lil' box. Just trying to use all the free energy i can with out overloading circuits.

But thanks for looking a fresh set of eyes and ears never hurt.
