my breeding project seems to have created all male progeny

Hey all,

I started a little pollen chucking exercise and planning to back cross to the mothers. I planted out 30 of each of the new F1's and every single one of them are male. Im at a loss as to why they are all male...

Im starting the back cross to clones of the original mums but im now wondering if all those offspring will be male as well? Is it worth continuing?

Going by basic genetics and crossing back to the mum, surely i should end up with some females in the new offspring yeah? Im thinking my male blueberry that i used has overpowered the females chances of producing female offspring..

Any advice would be really appreciated before i waste any more time and electricity!

Cheers
Mo

wow. what are the odds of that huh? were the f1s from the same mum? you gotta think that a bx would yield 50/50 but who knows? sooner or later you have to get a female i would think!

Yeah i know, completely spun me out hey.
The F1's were from 2 different mums too. I also have 2 other crosses i did with the male too so im wondering if it will yield the same all male progeny as well.
Im really hoping that the bx will give me some females or its been a complete waste of time!
Im also wondering if the original breeder (dj short)ay have done something so that any breeding would yield only males but that sounds almost impossible...i dunno hey!

that's just too weird. i've heard of alot of males ...but 30? you maybe should take a hard look at your environment??

I have some F1's going now myself. She's my 1st ever mix of Kush/Afghan/Sativa/Indica. That's what I named her K.A.S.I. She has been doing really good for a F1. No deformities what so ever.. ;) I just crossed most of my ladies I have now in flowering room#1 & flowering room#2. If anyone gets the chance, please stop by my thread & check those bitches out.. haha. I have a nice "wide" selection of strains going now. Upwards range of 40 some strains. Flowering & vegging of course. Heres a few. View attachment 2937013 Pure Kush. @ 55 days. 12-08.jpg Snapshot - 1.jpg

Yeah its got my mind boggling. To get 30 males of each new strain, its making me wonder if the rest will be male too. Worst part is they were looking perfect, beautiful structure, big fat indica leaves and smelt divine.
Do you have any suggestions as to what in my environment would cause it? I was growing them in a cabinet which had temps between 28-30 celcius during lights on and 15-20 during lights off. They were fed most of the cyco range of nutes, no light leaks, pH of 6.5-6.8 and 4 fans going, 1 exhaust and 3 intake...
Could it be too much nitrogen maybe? Or b vitamines in B1 Boost?

Sorry for all the questions dude, you sound like you have more of an idea than i do with this lol

Dankster- NICE buds dude, looks like you hit the nail on the head with your cross :D

Thanks. For the most part plants have either the "female" or "male" chromosome "what makes them male/female" is made up in their genetic makeup. However, if you stress a plant by either light, an abundance of (N) will also change a seedling from female to male.

Mo,

My wife, a genetics person, says that the right environmental conditions can cause it. She says that most likely they will Bx just fine and you won't have this happen again. It is possible that it is something genetic, ie something isn't working right or is overriding the female expression of sex traits, but that is much more unlikely then environmental conditions.

I don't know myself.

Dank may be on to something with the light or nutes. seems like you've got a pretty big diff night and day also???

Im really not sure hey. I was just reading that high N actually helpsto produce more females...high P causes more males apparently. Will try growing out some of the other crosses in a few weeks and see if theydothe same :)

Edit- sorry thats K not P.
