My Buddy From Another Province is An Idiot ( a Rant )

I have been a connoisseur of cannabis for a long time now. Having grown my own and been successful in doing so. I have this friend that moved back to his shit-heel province 12 years ago and he has now just contacted me telling me he wants to start up a show. He wants to fly me in to construct his operation for him, minimal pay, I don't care, I like building rooms. Now here's the problem...the reason for my thread. He is acting incredibly arrogant, pig-headed and ignorant. He has never grown before and has no intention of doing any research before trying. Also he wants to go with 10,000 watts on hydro tables and manage the entire thing himself with no grow education. I'm pissed off right now at this fool and I have to get this out. He also seems to think he can pull 20 lbs with this setup...IMO he's dreaming. He seems to think that growing massive "trees" (he calls them) will yield him way more weed in less time than placing say 10 x 5 gallon pots under each 1000 watt light. I use HP Promix (soilless) I got about a pound per light when I did this with 4 week veg and 8 week flower. He refuses to listen to me, acting pompous and aggressive saying he can do this no problem. He has absolutely no idea what he's getting into LOL zero common sense and he's going to lose a lot of money and suffer failure on big levels. He doesn't believe me that I know my science of cultivation ( and there is a reality behind the practice, right? ) He may as well draw himself a large boisterous cartoon of mammoth xmas tree looking plants filling a room and money being tossed everywhere, but to me it's not reality. I tried explaining to him that if you want the fastest production, you cannot vegetate for 2 or more mnths to get 4 footers or whatever then flower, you need to go 18-24 inches or 4 weeks of veg ( IMO ) then flip and flower. I know I'm ranting I just really wanna help this fool cause he's an old friend. My questions here are: A) What is the most probable outcome of his 10,000 watt show with hydro and it being a first time attempt? ( with a attitude of they will magically grow, I don't need knowledge) B) What do you guys think is a reasonable harvest per 1000 watt HPS with no Co2? Just so I can tell this moron the consensus, I think it's around .8-1.3 lbs IMO c) What is wrong with some people, acting like dumb ignorant fucks who know it all? When most of us guys put in incredible time working, practicing, researching and humbly learning the art of growing cannabis through trial and error and then knowing the limitations and best personalized methods to do so. I'm massively offended by this guy and his ignorant attitude because I know he's gonna fail then call me and bitch and whine. Sighhhhhhhh...oh well LOL Have fun dude! If he just listened to me and learned from my experience and humbled himself he cold avoid the losses... ~ BCbuddy420 :leaf:

The likely hood of him failing in hydro with zero knowledge of pH or EC/PPM levels is quite high.

In hydro problems can happen quickly and when it happens to one it happens to however many are connected to that reservoir.

If he manages to get through it I would expect a minimum of 500g per light.

If he quits being a dumbass and learns about hydro he could achieve as much as 800-1200g per light. Making a good investment.

At the end of the day, if you get what you want out of it, and he gets what he wants(a sound 10k setup) then if he fucks it all up its not your money down the drain.

I don't know what to say but it seems to me that if you want to rant you should probably take it to a different section of the forum even if you have some valid grow questions although I am not sure about that because even if you get the answers and relay them to your buddy then he probably won't listen based on his track record and the fact that he doesn't know about SOG or other fast grow techniques or at least so I surmise from what you said about him although I don't really know you so this could all be a lie and welcome to RIU where lots of people don't do any research before the grow and why the fuck am I not using punctuation and paragraphs and just typing a wall of text like the OP.

Phew!

Yep I was fuming, in a wall of text. Guess I guess hate guys who don't wanna do the work and won't listen to reason. But your absolutely right, I shouldn't post have posted it here. I don't even care what he does, I'm not going to help him with this ignorant glutton grow. I respect the intricacies of growing like someone respects a religion. It takes knowledge, practice and understanding... he just doesn't get it, but after his attempt he may want to.

Well, it got moved so all is good. But, yeah - so many people just want instant success without putting effort into learning the basics. Welcome to everywhere!

Thanks, I will do just that, even though he has now offered me more money for setting him up ( his way), I could use the money but I feel too offended by his lack of respect for the plant... and a general knowing he's going to fail. It's a moral thing I guess... I could set him up but I'd just feel weird about it, rather just let him get someone else or do it himself.

Hey Jon long time, hope all is going well man! Yeah, he won't listen, 10/10 on the arrogancy scale so I'll just wait and see how he does. That much off of 1000 watt light on hydro eh? Hmm I know what I'm doing for my next setup ;) I don't have any experience other than soilless mix and OD. I was always afraid to try when I had proven success with my simplistic methods.

i know exactly what you mean. i was in a similar situation a few months back with a friend who was all jazzed up with this fairy tale idea of growing and he asked me to help him out and had zero intentions of learning anything. i had a sort of moral beef with it and he called me whiny. maybe i was being whiny, but i had no intention of wasting my time on something that was quite clearly going to turn out to be a phase. he's notorious for his phases. he kept asking me all sorts of entry level questions but didn't like any of my answers because they were "overly complicated" which they weren't. he simply had no intention of putting forth any effort whatsoever and wanted me to basically do all the shitty up front work and then he could just water the plants. it was a total fantasy.

i told him not to waste his time and it irritated him. sure enough, he moved on to a fish tank phase. i'm sure he'll ask me again after all his fish are dead

but he wasn't offering me any money, he just wanted me to waste all my time out of friendship. if the dude is going to pay you why should you give a shit if his grow is successful or not? just smile and nod and take his money. he obviously doesn't mind flushing it.

I've gone back to simple after my run in with hot fuzz.

Had all my hydro gear hauled away.

If he's willing to pay you for the work I say go for it.

Just don't forget your latex gloves if he's not legal. Don't wanna leave your prints on stuff. Lol.

He's acting the same way as your buddy lol callin' me whiny... It's just way too frustrating and I don't even wanna be around him while setting up his miracle factory. He would just try to boss me around, it's a waste of some gray hairs. Not worth the money. I do want to see pictures of his blow-out crop though ;)

Good point, I would take his money if I knew it wasn't going to be stressful and a constant battle between reason and fantasy... Ya the fuzz got me too bro. I want to grow again more than anything else and I will find a way.
