My Crohn's Disease

Late last night I started getting cramping after eating some chocolate chip cookies after smoking a J..They're really super soft so I can't understand why they'd cause problems. I thought I might be experiencing obstruction again. So far, I've been in and out of the hospital 3 times. The nurses and doctors there know me by name everytime I've been there. I hate it. Today I feel really weak and im tremoring slightly. Usuaully it's caused by the pain and break out in cold sweats.

I think I'm gonna smoke a J and lay down and watch the tube =(

I hope you are feeling better Tomoyo.... It is sad when the staff all know us on a first name basis.

i have crohn's disease. are you on any meds for it? marijuana alone doesnt get rid of all my symptoms, when i get real bad i have to get on a 4 week course of prednisone.

i have zofran too but for the most part the bud takes care of any nausea i have.

ever smoke TGA's Querkle? works wonders for me when i'm having bad cramps.

but when i'm feeling bad, curling up on the couch and smokin a J or 2 always helps.

I don't have crohns, I have an autoimmune, PBC..(primary biliary cirrhosis) that is killing my liver.

But I did have surgery removing a large part of my colon a few months ago as a result of an abscess between my colon and bladder....it was very painful and I imagine your pain may be similar?

well I feel better from earlier..I just gotta eat healthier which isn't a problem..stay away from foods that could cause potential flare up..my problem is..I can get obstruction and I was borderline plugged up last week in the hospital..get some prednisone and miralax and I was fine. I actually feel better now that i'm eating healthier. I'm actually eating more japanese dishes and more fresh fruits and cooked veggies.

Japanese food like sushi is really good for crohns..lots of nutrition value and its easy to digest.

Japanese food is awesome for a lot of diseases, especially auto-immune and diseases of the GI tract, I think in part because it is very low in gluten and related grain proteins and high in omega-3. I find it extremely interesting that the list of disorders which are helped by cannabis is very similar to the list of disorders helped by a gluten-free or grain-free diet.

I wish someday doctors find a cure for autoimmune diseases and crohn's. Major League Baseball and NASCAR are big contributors to the crohn's and colitis foundation of America.

I don't think doctors (i.e. Big Pharma) is the place to look for solutions. They invent drugs that mask the symptoms but are not a cure and often cause more problems in the long run. We already have a cure that works for bowel and other autoimmune diseases for many people, and that's a gluten/grain free diet. Try Googling crohn's + gluten sometime (or arthritis + gluten, or IBD + gluten, or diabetes + gluten or many other supposedly "incurable" diseases), you'd be amazed at the info out there. It costs nothing to try, just a bit of your time for research and changing the way you eat.

my GI is a big advocate from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundations of America and they put millions into research, so I disagree with that.

It wouldn't hurt to just try a gluten/grain free diet, I know many people who swear it helps with their GI issues.

i tried the gluten free diet, didnt help me at all....but its helps my aunt who has crohn's, and i've read many other success stories with the gluten/grain free diet. there are a few real good cook books for crohn's diets, ive tried em all...none of them worked and in a couple cases sent me into real bad flares.

Al Dente - sorry, its not the cure, it didnt work for me, as well as others, there is no cure for crohn's. the only thing i can do is take my steroids every few months. i completely back your big pharmacy theory for a lot of drugs...but it does not apply here.

cmt- I'm not saying it's a cure-all for every case. But I do believe people should try it first, before going on to more invasive efforts.

Hey- trust me, I know prednisone is bad. They only want to put me on it for about 6-8 weeks then taper.

Hi tomo! I am very sorry to hear about your medical problems! and sorry to stumble on your post so late! I am back and forth from Tacoma wa to Cali so i forget to check both states posts! I have crohns now and have had my colon removed from colitis! I know how bad prednisone is! I no longer have an adrenal gland from being on it for so long! I have tried everything the pharmacy has to offer for it (immunosuppressant shots and pills, asacol, prednisone, and many more) and the gluten free diet! Even high doses of pain meds(to slow down the guts) to constant pain meds thru a patch. My GI also has me on marinol now! it is synthetic thc! it really helps with the nausea and makes the low end stuff seem a bit better! Really hard to get thou! A lot of times masking symptoms is all you can do! there is nothing you can do about intestines destroyed by ulcers! Pain meds dont cure pain but they make you feel better by hiding it! very few Big Pharma companies say their drugs CURE the problem, they do say it will make it better for you to deal with. Yes there may be side effects but you have to weight those aginst what you are dealing with! Yes prednisone had wiped out my adrenal gland but it has also helped me gain 20 lbs back after losing 40. Most people that have crohns/colitis are already watching their diet very closely because there is no set foods that set people off! I can handle dairy just fine but my cousin with crohns cant. I have built my diet up over the past 10 years to have my body decide that it doesnt like something anymore and have to start over! I will go on chicken broth for 2 days and slowly start adding more food again! normally i am all for bashing big companies but in this case none of them have made any promises of curing anything, just that they might mask the horrible effects of this disease! Im seeing Dr. Lyons and Dr. mulhall at tacoma digestive disease center they have both written books on diets from sugars to gluten to fatty acids my surgeon is Dr. Klatt! Founder of The American Cancer Societies "Relay for Life".
If you ever have any questions or just need an ear that has been there before feel free to let me hear about it!!!!
