My first grow! (a frost strain)

hey all this is my first grow! i am using a 400w mh for seedling/veg stage and hopfully i can afford a 1000w ballast and hood for my 1000w hps bulb!!!! if not the 400w mh will have to do haha!, right now i ave 8 seeds in the jiffy discs that exspand when u add water, they have been in there for two days straight from the bag and one has sprouted already! i plan on transplanting into 1 gallon pots and then into 5 gallon pots after veg! i am going to buy FFOF soil and the 3 nutes thay have as well! i will post pics when i get a new phone! how does everything sound? how do i know when to transplant into the one gallon pots? also when should i start useing nutes? sould i keep the light 18/6 from seed till flower? they are in a broom closet right now, its pretty small 14"x21"x6ft the light is 3ft from the seeds and since it gets hot in there i leave the door open and it stays about 80-85 degrees in there, i know i need a fan haha! i am going to keep them in there as long as i can then i will move them to my bedroom for the remaining grow time! well let me know what you guys think

update, plants are now five days old and planted into ffof soil in one gallon pots. how far should my 400w mh be from the plants. right now it is 32 inches away!

I would like to say maybe 20"! BUT, heat is the ultimate deciding factor. What type of hood do you have?

I'm using a 400W for my blue widow/fastbud grow (https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/509255-gios-blue-widow-fast-bud.html) now, and my single rotating fan takes care of most of the heat.

The issue I forsee is one that no amount of fans can amend: Insufficient light. I use a 400W because I only have 4 small plants, grown 12/12 from seed. 100W per plant of low K light is enough for this. However if you plan to do a full grow with 8 plants, 50W per plant will really thin out your harvest.

This is because plants get precious ATP(energy) from photosynthesizing light, and that energy fuels growth and flower production. When you give your plant insufficient light, it ultimately results in small flowers because the poor babies are struggling just to grow. It is the EXACT same reason people get skinny when they can't afford to eat enough; their body stops producing low priority tissues like fat and extra muscles just to keep the organs going.

i would be useing the 1000w hps right now but i only have the bulb i need a ballast and hood, so in about three weeks when they are ready for the flower stage i should have some money to buy what i need to hook up the 1000w hps:)

ok, i will try my hardest to get that setup! today when i was in my local growshop the guy offered me a hood, ballast and bulb 1000w hps for 200 bucks! i told him i already had the bulb but i would buy anotherone for thatkind of deal!so i am super excited!i couldnteven find a ballast online that price alone!

doesn't sound like a bad deal! you can always upgrade or modify your set-up as you advance!:weed:

yess sir! my plants are a week old today i believe and they seem to be doing ok! they seemed a little stretched to me but not bad so i raised them up another two inches closer to the light! so the light is about 16-18 inches from the top of the plants! i still have given them no nutes! and since i trans planted them thursday into the one gallon bags and watered them i have not had to water them yet! so i think they are doing well. i took a few pics, probly are not worth posting but i am going to anyway just because its all i have. sorry i am getting a new phone soon!
