leaves r very important componentsto plants....never take them off unless they r over 50 percent bad

Topping it is one thing, you may lose some fan leaves depending on how much you take off. All other fan leaves should stay. Fan leaves are what produces energy for your plant and during the later stages of flowering the plant will actually suck energy out of them, essentially consuming them for the bud.
