23 watts is the only part that matters, you need 100 actual watts per plant. them temps are high, but mine are like that too but then again i got a 400w hps.

You wouldn't want to run a HPS bulb in a plastic box either. You'll do fine with CFLs as long as you add a few more down the line.

# of bulbs depends on what you want to yield ;) If you are just putting them over the top I'd say go with ~8 of the 23w or like 4 of the 48w.

just get some 42watt bulbs that are equiv to 100 watts, which put off roughly 2800 lumens per bulb. Problem solved.

Otherwise... 2 100watt CFL's that are typical socket size ready, that put off 200watt equiv... but, your going to need a bigger air flow

(where I get some of my supplies from)
thoses are kind of expensive, this is just an experiment really so i dont want to spend a lot of $$$. the best bulbs i found so far are these 23w=100w cfl bulbs. i cant seem to find anything larger in watts, ill keep looking around.

im going to try to find some bulbs with higher watts, just i dont wanna spend too much. it seems i can only find 23w bulbs right now...but ill keep looking

It's nice, but it a little obvious, as the rubbermaid is lower than the outlet. Where did you find bulbs that can go directly into the outlet, mine only work for fixtures (lamps, ect.)

i have my rubbermaid in a closet next to a identical one, plus a couple smaller ones so it blends in. as for the bulbs you can buy light socket adapters that can just plug into an outlet and you can screw in an ordinary bulb into the adapter. you can find them at most hardware stores
