My first indoor grow with CFL's

My first CFL grow.
Setup,
1.2x1.2x2m tent
2x300w 6400k cfl
Wilma 9 pot system auto watering
Extractor via smell stopper and carbon filter
4 pots clay pebbles, 5 pots canna coco
9 dutch house dutch cheese

Following germination via cotton sheet, transplant to peat plugs, then transfer to pots.
Days 1-7 lights 24hr, water only 3 times per 24hrs (8 hr spacing) for 10mins
Days 8-14 lights 18/6, canna a+b 3 times per 24hrs (8 hr spacing) for 10mins (plants werevery light in colour due to overwatering)
Days 15-35 (today) lights 18/6, canna a+b once per 48 hrs for 15mins

The middle 3 due to being directly under the lights are obviously doing better than the outer 6, next grow I’ll prob switch to 4x250w cfl’s in 2 reflectors for better coverage. I’m due a nutes change today soI’ll shift the middle 3 to the rear, the rear 3 to the middle for a bit, then switch the front 3 with the middle 3 to try to even the growth a little bit.
Temp is approx 30 at the top of the tent and around 22 at the top of the pots.
PH checked daily and seems to be holding between 5.7-6.0.
Nutes drained and replaced every 14 days, I know I should be doing it at least every 7 but the downside of the Wilma system is it needs 30lt just to cover the pump filter, so I put 40lt in and after 14days its down to about 30lt, I will address this issue before the next grow, probably by blocking all but the lowest drainpoint and using a container for the water/nutes to drain into, thus reducing the level required meaning it can be changed every 7 days without throwing away a lot water/nutes.

All in all I’m quite chuffed as this is my first indoor/cfl grow. photo was taken last night.

I’ve no idea when to switch my lights to the red 2400k though, different people tell me different things, and can’t work out what to do with the canna pk 13/14, so a bit more searching on this site is required, still got a lot to learn. Any help/hints/tips etc greatfully received
thanks for reading.

your plants look healthy, but why you didnt use 600w hps instead of 2x300w cfl? you would get way more better results

thanks, i am quite chuffed, reason for the cfl rather than hps is heat, less chance of cfl's showing up on thermal camera, unable to sort the insulation required at the moment to keep it hidden, when i finally get everything probably sorted i'll prob give hps a try, had to move plans forward due to lack of availability and ridiculous price rises :-(

Subbed. I'm looking forward to seeing how your grow turns out.
thank you, but I'm looking forward to it more :eyesmoke:

very very nice!
thanks

were at day 43 now, they're looking good, but I reckon I'll need to switch to 12/12 shortly, otherwise they'll grow too big for the tent, lol, gonna switch to 12/12 with the 6400k lamps for a week then swap them for my 2700k lamps, I do have a bit of a dilemma though, do I stick with my 600w cfl's or switch to my 600w HPS, hmmmmm, things have warmed up here (slightly) so not so worried about heat trace. I had intended to do the entire grow with cfl's, then the next with a MH and then HPS just to compare yields, I know I'd get more, just curious as to how much more, I may need to upgrade my extractor fan as well if I switch to the HPS, top of tent still holding steady at 35, top of pots 22 with the cfl's, I do need to get a fan in the tent to improve airflow as well, decisions decisions

feel free to give me advice ;-)

Nice grow they look great so far. I would highly recommend you looking into T5 high output florescent bulbs. They get like 93 lumens per watt and put off very little heat just like cfls. I say they are almost as good as HPS without the heat. You can put them literally right next to the plants unlike HPS so less power wasted. One of the best setups is the T5 Badboy. You can also go to HTGsupply.com they have really good lights too.

wow, t5 badboy looks like a decent bit of kit, can't seem to find a uk supplier, will look more later, at the mo I've gotta stick with the cfl's or HPS as that's the kit I already have, and can't afford to upgrade any of it :( I certainly will consider it at a later date tho, many thanks for the info

sod it, they've had 7 weeks vegging, 1 wk in the sun and 6 in the tent (yes it has been 6 weeks since we had decent sun ) so tomorrow we go 12/12 and lets see what happens, they are getting nicely stinky now

t5 lightwave in england it come's in 2 sizes and the pk 13-14 use it in the 4th-6th week of flower or when budding begins for 1-3 weeks
not sure if the lightwave is the same thing but the bigger one is 400w

nice one, cheers for that, skint at the mo, thanks public sector, grrr, one of the reasons for doing a decent grow is I can't afford to buy anymore, esp at the stupid prices, and the younguns thinking theres 24g in an oz, i blame the schools, lol.
I did toy, when i'm a bit more flush, in importing the badboy t5 system, but my last experience with c&e meant I now own the worlds most expensive thermos flask.

You should always have a fan...they aren't just for heat..they are to give the plants thick stems able to hold themselves up...the plants need a little resistance to get strong.
