My first time

I don't expect anything monumental to come from this. I am doing all I can for this project, which isn't very much. This whole process started about a week ago, and as I've already started a grow journal, I'll just post it here. Everyone has permission to reply if it is constructive or a compliment.

Buzzy’s Cannabis Growing Diary
I’m writing this diary to help other people in their growing experiences. It’s a hands on guide with extras that I feel a step-by-step program can’t compare with, because by using this method, you can see the product in the end.

Day 1 (1/6/2008 6:44 PM)- Today when at a friend’s house, I saw the perfect container to germinate my seeds that I’ve had for a few months now. It’s a small canister to hold the glucose testing strips for my friend’s diabetic mom, so I asked her since there was only one more in the can, if I could have the can and she could transfer the strip to another container, she agreed. I came home and got out the seeds that I’ve began germinating in an alternative way, which did not show much hope, I poured a small glass of warm water and dropped my seeds in, and put the glass in an empty cupboard that was dark. I checked on them every 12 hours, and after the first 12 hours, I tapped on all the seeds on the surface to make them fall to the bottom of the glass.
After 2 days, and after getting this canister, I come home to find that one seed has already popped open to reveal its roots. I bring out a small pot, and some potting soil, and I find that I have lost the seed, DAMN. I have about six or seven more, but now I have to wait for another to germinate in my new proper germination chamber. These are the steps that I took to make it:
1.First I scraped off the sticker that labeled it a glucose test strip, I guess I just did this to be professional, and because my mother would wonder why I have them.
2.Next, I grabbed a bit of toilet paper and stuffed it inside.
3.I waited for the water in the sink to get a little more than luke warm, and got some in the canister.
4.I then drained the water, leaving me with a canister with moist paper in it, the perfect germination chamber.
5.I dropped the remaining seeds in the canister (about 6 or 7), disappointed with myself that now I will have to wait another few days for another seed to pop open.
6.I closed the pop on lid to the container and tried to find the warmest, most humid place in my house to speed up the germination process, and after deciding my garage was to cold (but very humid when the dryer was running) I decided on using my mom’s bathroom.
After some consideration, I thought about making this diary, and decided that it would be nice to have some pictures, so I went to get the can, and opened it up just a few hours later to find that 2 seeds had popped open within the time I made the can and decided to make this diary, AWESOME. I pulled out a small pot, and some potting soil, and made sure not to lose any of the seeds this time. This is what I did to plant it:

1.I got a ceramic pot about 3 inches in diameter with a drain hole at the bottom of it to stop my plant from drowning.
2.I filled the pot about 80% with potting soil I picked up at home depot for just $2.50.
3.I placed the seed, root pointing down, inside the soil, and covered it with about another half inch give or take of more soil.
4.I put some luke warm water in it, and placed it outside, next to my tobasco plant, which is in my porch, that is fenced in. I realize this is a horrible place for a marijuana plant to grow in America today, but when it gets bigger, I plan to transfer it to a 5 gallon bucket and put it in my closet.
Now I just wait. Tomorrow when I come home from school (around 2:30pm) I’m going to water it again. I’m hoping for something to sprout up within a week, if not, I’ll use another germinated seed.

Day 3 (1/9/2008 12:49 PM)- It is now day three and I have been watering my plant regulary, but so far there has been no sprout. I hope it doesn’t take more than a week and a half, I’ve seen other first time growers online and have seen leaf form by day 5. I plan to add a miracle grow spikes, I will post pictures later. I have also started to grow inside. I am using a red party cup with a hole I burned in the bottom as a makeshift drain hole.
1.I just scooped up about 75% of the cup with soil
2.Propped the seed inside, making sure to keep the roots pointed down.
3.Covered it with another half inch of soil.
4.Watered it
5.Put it right under a 60 watt light
I plan on upping the wattage after sprouting
I used the other germinated seed. None of the other seeds have germinated yet. I was starting to get worried that maybe they are bad seeds, so I examined the inside and saw the toilet paper still moist, and brown water on the sides of the plastic insulation. I wish I got a picture, but I forget and just cleaned it.
1.I removed all of the seeds carefully so that I did not lose them.
2.Pulled out the toilet paper and threw it away.
3.Rinsed out the inside of the chamber.
4.Took a small chunk of paper towl and got it wet.
5.Wrapped the seeds inside it.
6.Replaced in chamber and put away.
This is it mostly for today, I may make another entry later when I install the miracle grow sticks.

Hey Buzzy, I just wanted to say good luck on your grow. I began my first grow only three weeks ago, the link is in my sig, so I'm still learning too. Your journal is very thorough with its step by step details and I like that.

There were some things I read that raised my concern for your methods, however. One was that you were watering your seed every day, I think you might be drowning it, but I don't know all of the details. Another was that you are using a 60 watt incandescent bulb. I don't think plants can grow under that sort of light. You could cheaply fix your lighting issues with some 26 or 42 watt CFLs. You can buy CFLs at home depot or even some grocery stores. And lastly, your seedlings don't need any sort of fertilizer for a couple of weeks. And miracle grow spikes might not be the best choice either, I think you will end up nute burning your plants with those.

You should take all of my advice with quite a few grains of salt, I'm no expert grower and I don't pretend to be. Once again, best of luck but I would recommend researching watering, lighting, and nute requirements of seedlings.

Day 5 (1/11/2008 2:45 PM)- I am sooo happy! My plant sprouted today! Yesterday, and some of the day before, I was about to give up. I was very discouraged by the fact that experienced cannabis cultivators told me that my way of growing wasn’t going to get me anywhere, but to please never give up. They say to only use a fully germinated seed, and they also say to never water a seed. I did both, and my plant still sprouted! I found it when I went to go water my other plant (tobasco), which is also looking like it’s starting to get used to my pot and soil. I smelled the leaves of my plant, it’s definetly going to be fire! I don’t know the strain, because I just can’t remember. I also don’t I also don’t know if it’s sativa, a hybrid, or just indica. The germination leaves are pretty well grown, and I can see to of my special 5 leaf clovers growing at a perfect 180 degree angle . The only thing I am worried about is that the plant has come up on almost the edge of the plant, which means that I’m probably going to have to transfer faster than I wanted to, and also, the leaves are pointed to the side, like they are not getting enough light, because I have it almost in the shade, so I am moving it. I hope I can prolong the transfer as I have never done it before, and I don’t want to fuck up. The seed is still stuck the the base of the leaves, I tried carefully to get it off, but I don’t want to harm the plant so I just left it alone, a lot of guides say that it’s just going to fall off when it grows larger anyways. I can’t wait until I can post more, anyways, here are today’s pictures.
Today’s Pictures:

Thanks, I actually take it with a lot of consideration. I found all of the information out except how cheaply I could change my lighting (which I greatly appreciate), and for the most part have fixed all of it. I redid my inside plant, and made it an outside one, and my plant should be good for a while since I filled it with water and let it drain multiple times. Thanks a lot.

Yeah, I've read over most of it, skipped the parts about hydroponics and such because I don't plan on doing that for a while, but it's really good. Thanks for recommending it.

Anyone care to take a guess as to how much I'll yield? It's just a bagseed, crippy to be exact. Pretty nice bud, hoping it's a female.
