I usually do my lights by hand every 12 hours, same time daily... im out of town for a few days, I'll have someone trustworthy checking in to water it but i'll have to use a timer for the lights.

I Have 6 CFLs wired through 2 fixtures to an extention cord, which goes to my UPS power strip. I have 2 light timers, the one that takes 3 prong is not accurate, and is off by up to 30 minutes on the 12 hour on/off cycle.

The 2 prong timer is accurate but i'd need to use a 3 prong to 2 prong converter, which i have to use allover the house because most outlets are 2 prong. Is this safe to do? Its only supporting the 6 cfls, the fan has its own plugin and can go 24/7
