hmm. ok so then it probably doesnt make any difference...I am running a 600W HPS but i cant get the temps down so i was asking if maybe mylar somehow casued more heat but thanks for clearing that up...back to the experiment board in resolving heat

well, mylar is used in first aid kits as a safety blanket, so I imagine it insulates heat, and I imagine if you don't have addequite ventilation, that's what is happening.

Mylar reflects more of the heat than white does. It doesn't make it any hotter it just focuses it more, because the white does absorb slightly more heat. I don't know if that made it any clearer. Bottom line, the total heat temperature is going to be the same.

The emergency blankets arent mylar completely different those are actuallyan aluminum treatment given to apolymer plastic sheet under negative pressure in extreme heat.I run 2 600 watt lights or 3 400 watt lights heat doesnt really seem to come up from the lights to much but ventilation and constant air movement are major factors.I use both mylar and elate white and am now leaning towards just flat white as the room seems to be brighter with better side light reflection

I haven't had the opportunity to take pictures and make another cool tube and write it up for you but.... Grow Marijuana FAQ, Cannabis cultivation - marijuana growing tips & photos

There is a link that tells you how to build a fairly nice cool tube... I would consider putting a stanley fan 39.99 @ Walmart on it instead of a 125 cfm fan. Stanleys are rated around 2300 cfm, might not actually get THAT good but it is a powerhouse. With that your cooltube can TOUCH your plants.

potlike you totally answered my question.. i have been wondering whether or not one of those fans could do the job of venting my cooltube and if you think it will work then im gonna pick one up today. This way ill use my 170 CFM inline fan for venting out the box itself and the stanley to vent out the cooltube. Thanks for the help all. I appreciate it

Np man hope it works out for you great ;)

here is a picture of a mod I did... didn't even have to take apart the fan. Just used a 6 to 4 reducer with some duct tape and then some pvc one end goes to hps other goes to activated carbon scrubber that I diy'd

alright i got the fan today and hooked everything up but its still too hot :(. maybe my ventilation work sucks, i have no idea...it stays at 93 and doesnt get any hotter and it will go down to about 92 but no less than that. i think my light is just too big or something. im going to try making another intake hole so that will total 3 and hopefully that will help things. ;/ if not lets hope they let me exchange my stuff..

yeah, i thought 67 cents for a 62" x 82" section of mylar seemed flakey, thanks for that gem... flat white it is

they wont use anything else, flat white paint is the best it would seem, according to some sources

you know its always easier to exhaust hot air than it is to try and force air...and cool it down right?
