Nail in stem?

Someone I know who has been growing for a long time mentioned a trick of his to me today. He says 1 day before cutting the plant, drive a nice thick nail right through the base of the stalk. This sends the plant into hyperdrive shock as it thinks it is going to die and send 100% of its energy getting those flowers as attractive as possible before it dies to spread its genes.

This is sorta the same theory as turning out the light for 48 straight before cutting, but I was wondering if anyone has ever done this method. Regardless, the dude knows more about plants than anyone I know, so I'm gonna try it on my current grow.

So, anyone ever try this or a similar method?

do you have any written stuff I can read? Not saying you are lying, just want to read more on it. Are you saying both things are urban myth...?....the nail thing and the 48 hours of dark? Or just the nail thing?

Well, I think I'm gonna try it unless someone can tell me that it actually hurts. It seems like the whole 12/12 system is just a shock method, as is the drying process, so I figure sticking a nail at the base will shock the plant as well, while still being able to pull the most nutrients possible from the res (versus being cut down and pulling nutrients from the plant itself). It seems logical to me. I'm going to be cutting it down anyways....I'll let people know if I notice anything odd.

I too used to walk to my grow op, up hill both ways, over broken glass, in bare feet, in 60 below weather....

It really sounds like it won't work. Now I'm no expert on plants, but that much shock would just seem unnatural, but then again. Who knows?

He is 25ish, majored in botany in undergrad.

I don't see how it could be too much shock, I mean, I'm about to kill the plant anyways and send it into ultimate shock during the drying process. 1 more week.

I was reading a post about the 48 hr darkness which probably also applies to this as it is the same situation, I'll try to find it to back me up. Forcing the plant into shock either way may make them try to produce some pretty buds before death, but the problem is it lowers the potency because of the new growth, low thc levels. So if for show I guess okay but if you are the one smoking it I wouldn't do it.

My parents mentioned that they were going to try this out on their mango trees (4 years old) haha I have no idea.

No it doesn't work, Jesus kids, use your brains.

This is an old hippy myth which is bullshit through and through.

The 48hr darkness is proven in a lab, nail through the stem...funny, just funny.

To be honest it seems like we should "prune out" certain members of the human race, the kind that believe any old shite like this, I think they're holding us back.
