got a 250 watt hps street lite, wired it and bypassed the lite sensor, it worked 3 hours ago, but when I set it up - nothing, I got power at the bulb soket and the balast is humming but no lite, how would I test for a bad capacitor, would a shorted capacitor manifest like this?

is the bulb good and is it hps or metal halide bulb?

or if its old street light is it Mercury vapor bulb?

I know you not soppose to but I ran HPS and MH in the same light , MH didnt like it much though , sometimes it would have hard time starting

lol lucj your not dead.Wrong bulbs in a wrong ballast will eventually explode on a startup and send molten hot shards of glass in every direction at a good amount of force and if your lucky you ll just fry the ballast.

yeah, lucky me, would tha ballast still make that buzzing sound if its fried?
