Need some advice on dividing grow area and ventilation setup

So I guess this is my first real post. I posted a little something in the introductions but I need some ideas with the growroom. So here it goes -

I built a cab inside a spare room in my apartment. It measures (7ft tall X 5ft wide X 4ft deep). I was thinking of splitting this into 3 spaces. One for clones, veg and flower. They would measure as follows:

Clone room - 3ft tall X 2ft wide X 4ft deep
Veg room - 4ft tall X 2ft wide X 4ft deep
Flower room - 7ft tall X 3ft wide X 4ft deep

Im looking for suggestions on using this space in the best way. Would it make more sense to make the clone room 2x2x4 and give that extra foot of height to the veg room? Any other ideas? You can refer to my half-ass diagram below if you dont get what im saying.

Also I have a second issue. I bought a carbon filter and will soon invest in a 4" vortex fan. These will obviously be used for the exhaust of the flower room. I just cant figure out the best way to vent everything. Im trying to avoid having to buy a ton of fans and give all 3 rooms each their own intake/exhaust.

Any ideas, suggestions, questions, comments are all greatly appreciated!

29 views and nobody had anything to say? It's not like I'm asking to give me a personal tutorial on growing. I just wanted a couple people to throw some ideas around with me. I thought that was the whole point of these forums?

yo 420, I built a room out in my garage it's basically the same size as yours give or take a few inches..anyway..the problem I have is that I'm limited to the size that I have..since I built it under the loft I have in the garage...but if I were you I would tack on a little extra to what you have and use that for your clones and mothers and what not..make sure you have an exhaust fan in each room...you don't want to crowd things..you'll want to be able to work. I wish I could build an extra little room to mine...I don't have mothers so I clone off my plants right before I bloom and start them on a shelf I have on the outer wall untill they are ready for the next crop...are you doing soil or hydro..good luck

hey blackdog, thanks! im pretty much limited to the size ive got as well. the room itself is already built, im just trying to figure out how to best split the space before cutting the wood for the dividers.

im in the same boat as you. im not gonna have mothers either. ill just clone off the plants about to go into flower. theyll stay in the clone room until they root and then go into the veg room. from there ill take more clones and repeat the process until i get other seeds.

and its all soil, take a look at the pics.

to be honest you could just do two chambers one250 mh for mums and clones. id supplement the clones with a 4ft floro beside them low to the ground. and then your flower room

thanks KOB, im hoping to be able to figure this out in such a way that i can harvest a whole bunch of small plants every month or sooner. some type of perpertual where i keep the flower room running 12/12 nonstop, and just keep making clones, veggin em out for a couple weeks and adding them to the rest already in flower.

thats not a bad idea, but i was just wondering what to do with a 7ft height in the veg room? i thought breaking it up would give me more options.

yeah i would throw the mother, clones and vegging plants under the 250w mh and divide like 3/5 of the space for flowering. With your setup now there is no place to put the mother which would take up half your proposed veg room

is a 2ft wide X 4ft deep X 7ft tall space really big enough to fit a mother, clones AND vegging plants? that seems like a bit much.

actually, i think i just need to go buy the damn wood, and see where it fits best. id love to have a mother if i can. if thats the way to do it then ill check it out.

Well ok, I read the thread. So first thing first. The tray for clones are less than 1' x 2', You can comfortable put 20 clones in that tray, and light it with a 2' double buld floro, about$15.00.
Since the lights in the veg and clone area are on the same schedule they dont really need separate rooms.
Now lets think about the flowering plan for just a minute, i think you said your going to use soil, If that is correct you will want 3 gallon pots, 9 of them will fill a 3' x 3' area, or close to it depending on height, so a perpetual harvest would be 2 to 3 plants?? Hmmm. If you got it to 5' you could probably get 12, so three in rotation. Hmmm. MIght not require as much vegging and cloning space??? WHat are your thoughts??

Also I have a second issue. I bought a carbon filter and will soon invest in a 4" vortex fan. These will obviously be used for the exhaust of the flower room. If you really want to have less fans, re- think your light's. T-5's, cfl's and floro's are the right lights for this type of growing area. THe logistics of closet growing alone make the t-5 the right choice for you main light, let alone that it will match the results of a 600watt hid using the same bulbs for the entire grow if you want. This will eliminate one of the systems, you won't need to 'air cool the light.
You will still need to address 'air movement to keep the air 'fresh' which requires intake and exhaust, as well as an oscillating for each area. If you buy to large of a fan and find you don't need it, you can't get a speed control for $30.00. If you buy a small one and find you need a bigger one....?? As an example, an 8" duct has 4 times the capacity of a 4" duct.
If you would like to check the light further I have a few things to say about them i my journal, just click the link. VV:blsmoke:

hey 420, I would split the room just enough where you can set up a shelf with a flouresent..a couple of 4' 40watt cool whites work perfect for cloning. if your wanting a perpectual garden you might want to set an ebb and flow tray so you can rotate your plants..put them on a 10 week program..check some books out..the one I like is from jorge cervantes..medical marijuana growers bible,it's his newest one..or another one you might want to check out is..hydroponic basics from george van patten..those books can help out with alot of your questions....for every clone you take out put two in then you can cull out the weak one..just keep slidiing them over..but if your doing soil like I see..I guess you can just rotate your pots..try using grow bags, they're pretty cheap and you can pack them in small spaces....check out the books, and good luck

VV is correct about the cloning mom veg space in comparison to the flowering space. I am planning on the perpetual harvest as well (shooting for 2 every 2 weeks!) I will only need space for my mom (one or two) and up to 6 clones...because I hope to move 2 in flower every two weeks..so it would be pointless for me to be tossing extras all the time.
So you really only need to separate into two spaces. It will be easier to work in, you will have more room to add stuff, easier to vent and control, etc.
4 to 1 is the ratio in size of flower area to veg area...it is what I am using. Every grow is different though.
Good Luck!

thanks everybody! i believe i am going to go with the 2 room design. i thought having the seperate clone area would be better but itll be much easier to work with the 2 rooms. Right now ive only got the 250w but when i get my 400 ill switch the veg room over to some t5's or something.

im sticking to soil though. i dont have the money to get set up with hydro, and i love the way plants grow when you take your time and grow organically in soil, the way nature intended it. its a personal grow so if i ended up with a lb of weed i wouldnt know what to do with it.

either way, thanks again and keep an eye out for a grow diary soon if you'd like to see how it turns out. ive got 4 ladies about to go into flower and ill be adding more along with some new strains later!

i like the idea alot. ive been trying to decice if i should frame off my grow room into two.i have a 400w mh for veg and a 1000w hps for flower .
i guess im gonna have to go buy 2x4s and plywood.

did you intend for your last post to post at 4:20 because it did .I thought that was cool
