Hello, I've been reading these forums for quite a while and this is my first post =)

I have some specific questions about growing that I need answered.

Right now I have a grow area of about 1 meter by 1 meter by 1.8 meters (3.33 feet by 3.33 feet by 6 feet), and I was wondering if I should use a 250W HPS light or a 400 HPS light. Im going to grow some plants from seeds to maturity using exclusively HPS lights as getting MH+ballast for it cost too much money, and I don't know if I should get a 250W light or a 400W.

I read that the 250 light is perfect for my grow area, but I've seen some people on the forums who grow in a similar area use a 400 wat bulb and they had great success growing.

Also, I will be growing most of these from seeds and not as clones. What I want to do is to fit in as much as plants as possible and just mature like 1 little branch on each plant early to see if it's a female, so I can get rid of the males. I need to know what's the max amount of plants I can fit into my box.

for example, lets say theoretically the box can sustain 10 plants from veg to flowering at a time. What I want to do is put 20 little pots with seeds in, and then after I early sex them and find out which ones are male, Ill get rid of 50% of them and then I will be left with the max amount of plants the box is capable of growing.

Thanks in advance for the help

a 250 is only really good for about a 2'x2' area ideally. I own a 250 watt and 400 watt MH and I suggest you go with the 400 you won't be dissapointed IMO.

if you are growing more than one plant i would go with the 400 simply because of the light penetration that it will give you compared to the 250. You will grow larger buds!

Can someone tell me how many plants will fit in it at maturity?

I know that plants take up more space as they get bigger, and I just want to fit in as many plants as I can in this box to get a larger crop size.
It's 3.33 feet by 3.33 feet, and 6 feet tall

some facts to help you decide:

minimum light for good bud - 3,000 lumens per square foot
recommended light - 7,000 to 10,000 lumens per square foot

250 watt light is appr. 40,000 lumens = 4,000 lumens per square foot
400 watt light is appr. 60,000 lumens = 6,000 lumens per square foot
600 watt light is appr. 100,000 lumens = 10,000 lumens per square foot

yield is proportional to light so you're talking about a big difference in yield. you generally use the most light you can adequately cool.

number of plants is up to you - it depends on the strain you choose. for an average indica blend i use 3 square feet per adult plant.
