hi, im completely new to growing and this is my first grow so go easy on me lol ill start off by telling u my setup first then my problem(s)..

400w HiD with shield
grow room is about 3ft x 6ft to ceiling height
hand watering *tap water*
soil is Miracle Grow...
light is about 3ft above plants
8 plants at about 2 weeks old *cuttings*
strain is pot of gold.
pots are 6" or above.
23/1 light cycle.
small fan blowing tops of plants

my problem is they seem to be getting burnt on the tips, ive done that hand test and the heat is no way near the actual plants, reason for the light being fairly high. i water every few days and give the plants a light misting which sorta helped with the burn but not stopped it.
i had more plants but they just seemed to have died because of this really, also the plants are cuttings but do you think the growth is minimal? i have no idea where they should be at this stage yet ive been reading up for weeks with no success. they look about 3/4inches tall which to me isnt that great.
as for fert the MG soil should be ok but i did give a drop within the water on the last cycle *today* to see if it would perk them up.

im open to any advice to help my babies survive the dreaded n00bie. thanks in advance

anyway to sort this out without transplanting? I read people having great success with MG but today all ive read is doom and gloom about the stuff... do you think growth looks and sounds fine? not noticing much change lately.
thanks for a quick response

You shouldn't start them in the Miracle Gro as stated in above post. It is a water released fert so if you have to keep them in it early like that then water little as possible.

I have one plant in Miracle Gro and I watered very little early on and then more so later on simply for the nutes. Growing in Miracle Gro is a bit tricky. On one hand you have to try and keep the soil moist but on the other you have to give your plants only so much nutes. My plant has been vegging in the soil for 6 weeks. Miracle Gro claims to have enough nutes for 8 however the bitches eat so... I'm still contemplating on what is the best thing for me to do. Whether to take cuttings from her while she is N def or just to revive her and flower with MG...next time round all coco that's all I can say lol.

Good Luck!

i didn't realise MG was this crap lol im hoping they all survive, if not ill have to get more cuttings and get better soil. does the rest of the setup sound ok? i got told to keep the light as high as possible? my temps are 82f but haven't done a ph test yet..

ill knock the temp down a bit then... do u think its too early to transplant again into better stuff than MG or will that just mess them up even more?

jeno , these plants like to breath , i think it would be worth wile to re pot and use a soil that will dry out between watering ,with a higher perlite content that allows the roots to get the oxygen they need

Don't knock MG products. I do TOTAL MG grows, soil....nutes.
You just have to know how to use it. It is a little hard on seedlings and takes longer to root clones, but you just very little nutes, as the soil has lots for around 3 months, and you can get some nice nugs with it.

I'm completely new to growing so it's all trial and error for me. Thanks for helpin me out, I've gone and got a fairly sandy soil with perlite, hopefully that will help these babies grow. Thanks again

i've just realised my light is actually MH 400w.. but i still have a problem, the plants seem happier now ive transplanted them. soil dries out within a day which gives them time to breathe. but problem is growth seems stunted? my ph is 7.0. which is a little high but shouldnt be a problem? im unsure if the light is the wrong light, will i need cfl? the plants look slightly bushier... but not great difference. they look weeks behind to what they should be, high is only about 3 to 4inches tall? any suggestions?
