Needing Some Insight on 1st Grow

MARS 27 x 27 x 63 Grow Tent
Quantum Board 135w (2700k)
Prime Garden 4" inline fan + carbon filter combo

Initially I was gonna SCROG 1 plant. Now Im debating between that or DWC.

Which, if either, is more newbie friendly?

Is that light fine for either? If not, which grow style would it best suit?

SROG and DWC aren't mutually exclusive bro, SCROG is when you use a net to train your plant and make an even canopy, and DWC is basically growing with a deep water culture hydroponic system...

Technically you can do DWC and SCROG, many people do it. A scrog is almost always a good idea.

If you're a newbie just go with coco/perlite as a grow medium, DWC is great but it's not newbie friendly

I don’t know bro. I think December is the friendliest of the hydro set ups. No pumps to monitor like ebb and flow no emitters to clog like drip or aero. The problem that people don’t think about with decent is two fold. One if you scrog you need to make an extra hole in the tank and get a ship vac. Makes water changes simple and easy. Once the plant grows into the screen your not going to get that top off easily to do res changes. 2 you have to keep your water temps down. If you are constantly over 75 degrees you run the risk of pithium(root rot). And believe me it’s a bitch to get rid of especially if it’s your first time growing. To combat this try to make you hole big enough to drop a 2 liter through it. If the res is somewhat shallow (5 gals is al you need for one plant) it should stand up. Fill it with water and freeze it. Get a second one for rotation and every day slip it in your res and rotate it out. Will keep your temps in the 60s. Nothing to it but to do it. Good luck.

This is a scrog net I designed for 5 gal buckets but can be used with any lid system. This makes res changes a breeze. Just lift the lid, pop it on a spare 5 gal bucket and empty, clean (if you're into that), refill, fertigate, pH and then pop the lid back on.

DWC is not hard if you can afford a pH meter, an EC meter and if ambient temps are hot a means to chill the water and a way to oxygenate water.

I first learned on DWC and the curve was longer than a soil grower, but I feel the yields and veg time are so much quicker than soil. It's not even fair.

Fertilize slowly and don't overdo it. I grow monsters with low feed (1.2EC)

Wondering if you meant LST since you were talking training techniques.
That light is fine for anything in a 2x2.

That's a good looking setup but have you tried it in a tent? It looks like a two-man job for a res change with that once the plant becomes large and heavy. Maybe add a pulley system to it to make it a single man job?

Those were made for a 4x4 tent. The outside edges of the cpvc are 22" apart and meant to run side by side.

The height is only 16" so they don't accommodate too large of plants.

I gotcha. I didnt know they could both be used together.

I guess I need to go look at some grow journals and try to find a grow that basically mimics what Im trying to accomplish. It would be nice to find someone to help guide me and show me the way lol I just think it would be simpler to not receive multiple answers to a question. I know there a various ways at every turn to growing and thats whats gonna confuse me. Also, running into problems I could just say "Hey this is what my plants look like, what should I do?" - versus - Posting a question on a forum and everyone that chimes in gives me a different answer.

Maybe Ill just use soil as a medium and go SCROG. Then while the plants are growing try to teach myself about the DWC technique and see if thats something I could teach myself

Maybe you're interested in DWC because of the good grow rates? If that's so why dont you try COCO coir and Perlite? It behaves like soil, but it's pretty much hydroponic. It doesn't need any special attention other than making sure it's clean coco.

DWC isn't hard, i just wouldn't recommend it to a first time grower. And by doing a run in coco, you'll be learning most of what you need to run any hydro setup.

Get a 3000 or 3500k both are good for all around veg & flower.

Im not against using COCO coir and Perlite. My reasoning for wanting to do hydroponics was mainly because of the quick turn around times. Since Im only using a 24"x24"x63" tent, my space is limited, so I figured I would look into the grow technique that generally produces faster.

I guess I need to go read various COCO grows and see what all I need supply wise. Little odd and end type stuff, so I dont have to make a 11 trips to Home Depot lol
