Net pot size along with a bunch of other factors

How do you know what size net pots you need? Is 3 inch plenty? I dont really see why you would need a large size. Also I have been running my setup on while the lights are on and off when the lights are off. I plan on getting another timer goin in there to maybe give it one or two waterings during the night time after switching to 12/12. Also what about root growth and rot? Will the roots from one strangle another? The roots are getting really frickin long! As long as they have the nutes they want they should be fine with the roots right? And then my final question. Root rot from heat... I can keep the water temp at around 84. I haven't had any rot problems yet, (been running for a couple weeks). Do you guys think I will have a problem as long as I do my reg water changes?

Are you doing a DWC grow?

3 inch is plenty big for your plants as long as they dont get to tall.

84 is WAY to warm for a res, fill a few empty 2 or 3 liter bottles with water and toss them in the freezer, after they freeze drop one in your res. I have 6 different resevoirs and thats what I do for all of them and my res temp stays at or below 68 or so. The colder the res the higher the O2 in your res is. Soundls like a pain in the ass, but it gets you a bit more involved with your grow on a daily basis.

The system is the rainforest 36 by GH. Is there any tutorials you would recommend on making a res to connect two of the systems together?

No it doesn't have an external reservoir. What is the ideal temp for the water and whats the point at which root rot is a problem. Its aeroponics so I don;t know if it is diff than like a dwc sys. Thanks for all the help. It is really appreciated. Sorry for the long wait before I responded btw.:-|

I dont think the size of the net pot really matters much, unles its too shalow that the plants cant stand, in seemore buds 15 pounds in 90 days or whatever, he grew plants in 1 inch net pots, and yeilded over 2 ounces on one plant... I dont think it matters at all, they arent restricted to the pot, the pot is just used to keep them sturdy. hopfully :P

Thanks for clearing that up. But now what about the temp of water problem? Maybe I will have to downgrade my lighting sys to keep temps down. I already have 300 cfms going through the exhaust for the room and aircooled hood with a 400 watt hps. I haven't experienced any root problems yet but how long should the roots get? Some seem to have a real nice root mass where other have a little one. I just hope the roots don;t get sucked against the prefilter on the pump and clog it and possibly hurt the roots.

Ah I see. Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see. How do people grow roots in those tiny aerogardens! I can't believe the roots don't fill up the entire thing and cause problems. Well maybe I should look into getting more airflow for now then sell this light after I am done with this crop. Then I will be set for my medicinal uses for a while and I can redesign a system then. As long as this grow goes decent I will be ok hopefully. The thing thats concerning me the most is water temps. I don;t see any signs of root rot but my water temps have been 85 before!
