I cut a clone off about 2 weeks ago from a plant that was in flower (didn't want to clone a MALE plant), as soon as I saw those first two pistils - out came the RAZOR!!!
I did everything correctly - I think : put on gloves, cut off a healthy branch that had leaves growing off of it and was about 6-8" long, trimmed the leaves to the branch (so that root's could possibly grow off them once buried), soaked the branch from the newly cut leaves down in a superthrive/water mixture for about 15 mins (followed by cutting the bottom of the branch at an angle while under the mixture), then COATED the branch in a Rooting hormone ( followed by a flick of the finger) and planted it in a complete mixture of Peat Moss and Perlite (that had a big enough hole in the medium so the hormone wouldn't "scrap" off - in a small dixie cup with drain holes). I soaked it with a spray bottle on a consistent basis and covered it with saran wrap (with holes poked in it for air) every other day. A tall thin piece of clothes hanger in the growing medium and a rubber band made this possible. (JUST think about it for a second and you'll picture it) lol.
Anyways, it seemed like it rooted.... couldn't really tell because I knew it would take some time to go back into vegging. It didn't seem like it was growing until the other day when SMALL leaves started to grow out of the center of the top of the clone (took 16 days) - I figured it was time to transplant!! I put it in a 3 gallon pot (as this will probably be my finishing pot) I don't like to grow super tall, huge plants unless outdoors! When I did the transplant, I again put on gloves and VERY carefully dropped it out of the dixie cup upside down. I then began to again, VERY CAREFULLY pick apart the growing medium, PRAYING for roots! Well my prayers were answered but they were all in a ball (about the size of a golf ball), at the VERY bottom of the clone/stem! I think the reason behind this is because the "ball" was on top of a stray piece of bark or something? It's like it couldn't grow through it, so instead of growing downwards because it was being blocked it started to go off to the sides and twist up in a ball. It essentially got "root bound" in a sense, but I'm sure it could've kept growing if I would have gave it time to get by that hard piece of bark or whatever it was!
Nonetheless... the new pot was filled with 100% Organic Soil, perlite and peat moss. I made sure to try and spread that ball of roots out as carefully as I could and planted it into mostly peat moss (60%) and soil/perlite (40%) in the hole I stuck it in - I figured the softer, more accepting medium.... the better chance I had of these roots breaking through to the average soil and flourishing!
So my question is.... did I do this right and do these pictures show how it's staying alive? It lives, but it's just not growing. Still the same size except the two SMALL leafs that started on the top before transplant, which still remain the same size (practically nothing). Also is this enough lighting above this clone (there's a reflector above)? I added a soft white to add to the spectrum..... I'm going to veg like I did last time in my flower box, once the mother plant is out around Christmas! Using all soft whites too, screw what they say.... I used soft whites throughout the whole grow this past time and it's doing great still - almost DONE! Any input is greatly appreciated!!!!
Sorry I don't have photo's of the process, these are a couple I just snapped after the transplant. It's been about 3 days in it's 3 gallon pot and please excuse the "sprout", it's one from some shitty bagseed and I'm pulling it here in a couple days cuz it's dying and I don't have time to tend to it. Some bug has been eating on it, I'm not wasting my time on it using neem oil and all of that shit!! But I may have to use some neem oil on this transplant due to the same bug.... problem u think??? May just use a layer of sand on top of the medium for bug eggs and some light neem oil mix to kill em off.
Here's the MOTHER PLANT!
Here's the clone and stupid sprout....
