New indoor grower

New to indoor growing. Back in the day we planted outdoors in rich soil sometimes buried fish near the root balls. Always had decent results. Now my state has legalized growing for personal use and trying to get my head around the overwhelming amount of info for indoor. I'm sure I'll have many stupid questions but the first one concerns nutrient ppm. I read some similar threads and I'm more confused than before. When mixing nutrients I gather my filtered water ppm would be added to the mixed ppm? Ex. my water is 200 ppm. Mix ppm target is 500. Am I to mix to 700 ppm? 500 for nutes above the 200 tap water or 300 nutes and 200 water for the total of target of 500? I'm probably a week away from starting 2 autos only because that's what I have presently available. Soil musings are probably coming next. Thanks.

Always start with your base as water PPM as zeroed

It is better in hydro to go with R/O water

And yes the internet changed the game

These were somewhat random numbers only to grasp the concept. In my feeble mind I am sort of leaning toward two different approaches. Germinating both in their 5 gallon grow bags. One with all happy frog and ff trio after a week or so and the other with happy frog up top and a mix of happy and ocean forest below (maybe 50/50 or 40 ocean/60 happy) and likely a delayed intro to nutrients. I hope to keep it as simple as I can. Interested to see what difference if any between the two. If this sounds maniacal I am open to advice. Thanks
