Newbie Mistakes/Temp problem

Hi Everyone,


Hoping for a little help, I have a 2x4x7 grow tent in my closet which is actually a very big closet and more like an office than a closet as far as size goes. I have a 6" inline duct booster fan bringing air in through the bottom left which is actually in the confined corner of the room. I originally had it on the right side which is adjacent to the door and my room but the noise was unbearable and I switched it. I have a carbon filter and 4" fan pulling air out through the top left.

The tempatures in the room and in the closet in general are getting pretty high and since I live in a desert state and summer is right around the corner I am getting very worried about temps. I am currently keeping my house ac at 75 F and the vent in my master bedroom is pointed directly at the closet door, I was hoping this would be enough circulation but it doesnt appear to be.

I have pictures below and can add more if requested.


I am also willing to spend the money to get a good solution if needed, e.g. a portable evap a/c unit or something similar.


This is my first grow and first grow room setup so if you have any other pointers or see something else out of the ordinary please let me know.

do you have air cooled hood, or is it open? And how are you having problems controlling temp in a tent, its usually humidity I have a problem with and im running a 3x3 and 5x5 tent

Its humidity and heat actually.

I should have noted that the lamp is not a heat issue, it is a pro-grow 400 LED from hydroponics hut and is cool to the touch.

So what are the temps? What do you consider "pretty high"?

The tempature was around 86F today when I got home. It has since cooled quite a bit, I have turned both fans off opened the tent up a little and just a little circulation fan trying to move some of the air out of there. Not sure what the actual humidity was and currently is but it seemed pretty humid when I first opened the tent and in the room. Will invest in a better thermostat that monitors humidity as well tomorrow.


My plants are barely entering veg and were just recently transplanted from a germination tray into pots, I did not have the fans going before and conditions were fine.

The first thing I am thinking I need to do is change the carbon air filter from exhausting to the same corner as the intake, kinda seems obvious now. There is a duct hole in the top and I can run some 4" ducting out of there and direct it towards the door. Do you think having the intake in that corner will work or should it be moved as well?

That's a bit too hot indeed. Considering the cool led lamp, it does sound like the same air is recirculated and warmed too often (I mean what else can it be?) so I'd expect moving it as you described will help.

Do you have any fans inside the tent? I got two clip fans that keep things cool enough with 600w hps, like these:

hello can anyone help with my question? please bare with me my floweringroom is 11 x 11 with 1000 w hps im Exhusting my room to my basement pushing the hot air down a 10x10 inch vent chase i built in my downstairs closet so it dumps into my basement can i still use my 300 sq.ft cfm fan to push the hot air down the total push down is about 15 feet ? please help

I dont have any fans circulating air inside yet, was planning on adding those later. Plants are just starting to form their second and third set of true leaves I wasn't worried too much about circulation at this point and my intake duct from the 6" seems to move the air across them just slightly, not enough to move really but just a little, which is good I think.

I will update tomorrow as to what the humidity is and more temp readings to see if moving my exhaust through the roof and out works better. Do you think the air will be cool enough with the house a/c as long as I get the exhaust air far enough away from the intake?

Is that the gorilla tent? how do you like it?? worth the money?

yes it is and I do like it, the material is very strong and does not tear easily. You get what you pay for definitely with it. Got mine for about $300 from fullbloomhydroponics with a free extension kit. Pretty quick and easy to tear down and move from one room to another too.

Good to know, hopefully I can afford it by the time Im ready for it.

As an update I have moved the exhaust to pipe through the top flange and am running it to point towards the very top of the closet door. I have one circulating fan outside the tent pushing the air on top out and I bought another circulating fan to blow cool air in through the bottom of the closet door towards my intake fan. Temps are stabilizing around 78.8 F and Relative humidity is at about 40% now. My plants seem to be power growing now, had two full sets of leaves grow on one guy in just the passed 24 hours or so. Very exciting.

Looks like humidity might have been a big cause as well, relative humidity was up to about 80% when I had my water buckets in the closet, I relocated them and the temp and humidity dropped significantly.

To all newbs out there, spend the $30 on a good thermostat that reads temp and relative humidity. I probably could have avoided the extreme heat if I wouldve saw it coming.

home depot, lowes, Kmart and wally world ALL have temp/humidity digital gauges for 10.00 each (actually 9.95). i bought 4 for my 2 tents. just a heads up. amazon has them for 15.00 + shipping.
