Hello all... first off let me say sorry if im beating a dead horse with this, but the reason I joined this forum is because there are quite a few interesting threads on L.E.D. lighting. I have been growing for about a year now, and haven't really gave L.E.D.s a thought until recently, it seems they are getting better and i have to at least consider it - mostly because of the bulb life and energy savings.
I thoroughly read Callibudz thread on his experiment with Lumigrow's 330w led light. I have to say the result was better than I expected, however I am used to getting roughly an ounce per plant... and the coverage area that you get from LEDs cant compare to a 1000w hid. What I wanted to bring to the table was a discussion i have been having with a gentleman a Prosourceworldwide.com. they sell led lighting and other stuff
I was tired of people claiming a 350w led could replace a 1000w hid, theres no way, however this is what he told me about his illuminator LED's:
"When I say replacing a 1000W HPS, the footprint is normally outfitted in a 4’x4’ area, and you can’t get that much footprint with a single 350w unit and still duplicate the results of the 1000W HPS. The 4 180s will cover a 4’x4’ area and duplicate or do better than a 1000W HPS. Though a 350W will give 1000W comparability, it is only in a little over a 3’x2’ area."
My question is do you think there is any truth to this? is it possible to get a proper yield with these lights? each 180 is like 600 bucks, please anybody with any LED experience chime in.
