Nirvana New York Power Diesel

Well i give up... ive searched and searched and its very hard to find any decent reviews on nirvana's New York Power Diesel or " NYPD ".

this is what i know so far
NYPD is Eldorado x Aurora Indica.
Eldorado was formerly known as sativa mexicana and is a tall, lanky, and airy sativa plant. it is known for its extremely sharp and crisp high, very up - like even for a sativa. it is a landrace strain, from Oaxaca Mexico, backcrossed for many generations. a very unique and legendary strain, it produces only a small yeild of airy buds, but, it is unlike any other strain and is a powerful sativa.

Aurora Indica is a hybrid of Northen Lights and Afghan. It is nearly 100% Indica, staying short and dense while growing. Nirvana says its probably their most potent indica. I have seen many grow journals myself of people growing this strain, and never are they dissapointed. it is a very heavy yeilder of thick resin coated buds.
it gives a powerful indica stone that one would expect. also very easy to grow almost anywhere.

knowing that about those two strains helps us understand the background of NYPD.
Nirvana has a description on there nirvana shop website of NYPD:
"A sensational and radical new marijuana mix, New York Power Diesel is an F1 hybrid of our popular Sativa Mexicana seeds and a specially stabilised Aurora Indica. The latter's heavy, greasy narcotic buzz beautifully takes the edge off the crispness and speedy effect of the former. NYPD's shockingly powerful terpenoids result in a marijuana with a lemony flavour and the diesel-like aroma that inspired its name. Its plants grow tall stems with a surprisingly tight bud structure. from what i understand its a modest yeilder of very very strong smelling/tasting buds, that have a powerful mixed high.

id love to hear anyone's reviews on the strain that has tried it!!

It grows like all hell in veg. Slow to start, and explosive once it matures. I am growing it as we speak. Just put it in flower this after noon. Trying to get all I can out of these bad girls. Pretty hearty, its taken a beating (my first grow), and hasn't lost a step. Short and Bushy. Grow out more than it grows up in veg.

My signature has a link to the journal. Some really good pics in there. As for smoking it? I'll tell ya in a couple of months after it is properly cured.

New York Diesel is an EXCELLENT smoke!!!!! It tends to cost a bit more on the street, as it's reputation preceeds it. It has won a few Cannabis Cup awards... The smell is a bit lemony, and yes, you kinda get a fuel smell in there, like it's namesake. The first time I smoked this stuff, I called my guy right back and told him I needed another oz... It's that good.

wow its a shame this plant isnt more popular. i bet its a great smoke, but im growing with cfl's in a closet and i am very concerned with the plants getting lanky. if they did i wouldnt have much of a yeild.
but it really seems like this would be an extremly potnent smoke.

if it comes from nirvana its good really good. no joke i grow white widow, white castle, black jack, snow white, bubblegum, aurora indica, and ak-48 all from nirvana and they are all killer.

Nirvanas nypd grows really fast and a little tall and lanky next to AK-48, blackberry and urban poison, but also matures a little faster than most of them. Responds quickly to topping and lst, havent started one of them in flower yet but I'm pretty stoked.

Do any of you guys know if the NYPD from Nirvana is a decent representation of the classic "Sour Diesel?"

Anything stemming from Soma is not Sour Diesel it's NYCD and completely different. Most European diesels are based on Soma's Diesel and not Sour Diesel.

So is there a strain out there that is a good representation of Sour D that carries more of the cost for a casual hobbyist?

grab some chiesel by big buddah seeds, soma's diesel really shined in my plant.

Go with DNA or Cali Connection Sour Diesel they are both BX's of the original Sour D.

just to touch back on this.... i went ahead and ordered NYPD and Blackberry from nirvana seeds. i already have chrystal and white castle. i have one white castle plant 8-9 weeks old about to be switched to flowering. about 6 years back, a friend and i grew some northern lights x bigbud from nirvana, it was fantastic quality bud covered in resin! Nirvana is certainly the best place to order... and for the nirvana haters... i have two greenhouse clones (bubba and super lemon) and they arent any better than nirvana's stuff.
ill make a post when i get the nypd up and going!

Well i have a nypd seedling next to a medusa seedling at the moment. we will see how they turn out!! so far nirvana has rocked my world. white castle was the best out of 6 strains i grew last time including super lemon haze and bubba kush. nirvana is the best. i have a blackberry female and chrystal female both 6 weeks into flower. the chrystal is absolutley insanely covered in resin, and the blackberry isnt far behind at all. they are awesome strains. the blackberry is a bit shorter and a lot closer of internodes than the chrystal tho. if u touch the resin on either plant it smells very strong and sweet!

I thought the NYPD was good, nice expansion decent taste and aroma but not characteristic of ECSD for sure. I had an ounce of it and an ounce of Blackjack and LA Woman and although good NYPD placed third in my mini-cup

the nypd is pretty unique. strong stuff, good yielder too. it had a very complex smell/taste. from citrus to kinda savory like. never had anything like it. my particular plant was a tad bit more on the indica side id say. was good enough to keep a clone around and spread a couple around!
in comparison to the medusa, the medusa was a lot more indica and flowered faster, despite veg being very slow. both produced very good, strong buds and were good yielders. these two strains produced light green buds for me, as did chrystal. my white rhino, white caste, and blackberry have all produced much darker buds.

NYPD turned out to be a high yielder, with a great high and a tangy unique flavor. took about 10 weeks to flower. easy to keep short, easy to grow all around.
