Noob question > Can you recommend a complete lighting system for me?

I've been reading posts for quite a while now and to be perfectly honest, my head is spinning. I'm quite certain somebody has already asked this question, so I apologize in advance for asking (again) but I just couldn't find what I'm looking for.

I've never grown before and I'm looking to purchase a lighting fixture. A couple of things I should mention ;

1) This is for my own personal use. I am NOT a dealer or anything like that, so I don't think I need something too elaborate or complex. Simplicity is what I'm looking for.
2) I would like something that's scalable, meaning, if I decide to grow more than one or two plants the lighting fixture I buy will suffice.
3) I'm looking for a system that will work with both HPS/MH and is a complete pre-wired kit. I should be able to simply plug in the bulb and have at it.

I understand my grow area (square footage) plays the most significant role in deciding which wattage to go with (please correct me if I'm wrong). Having said that, I only plan on growing one or two plants (for now) but you never know; I may want to grow more. I was thinking of going with a 1,000 Watt light fixture. Is that overkill? I would think that it would cover my two plants and in the future if I wanted to grow more, it should be ok.

So can somebody please help me out here? Please provide brand names/model #'s and if possible, links would be nice.

Thanks.

On 2nd thought....I have a different question related to my original question (no sense in wasting this thread). If I wanted to buy the components myself individually (the ballast, the fixture, etc.) as opposed to a kit, what exactly would I need?

I'm just trying to determine what's the cheapest route really; a kit or doing it myself.

And where in Ontario, could I buy these parts? Rona? Home Depot? Lowes? Canadian Tire?

Lil' help?

Ebay has complete systems that are as cheap as building them yourself. They are much less than most hydro stores.

...thank you SO much for that immediate feedback. I thought doing it myself would save me considerable dough, but I'm glad you steered me in the right direction.

What are your thoughts on this particular model? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1000W-MH-HPS...622?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item45fd99198e

Would you say it's all inclusive? Has what I would need?

Well here's the thing....I'm buying not only for todays needs, but possibly for tomorrows. I may wish to (and probably will) grow a higher number of plants in the future. That's why I wish to go with the 1000 watt lighting system. But the most important thing I'm looking for is simplicity. I want a full kit, where I can simply plug it in and go from there.

I'm in Ontario, Canada so if you know of any local shops that sell kits, or as Gyroscope put it, an ad on eBay that's just as good please provide me with all the goods. I want to get started. I'm long overdue. I've been thinking about doing this for over a year. Procrastination period is done. :)
Now I have to work on the lighting system and making a grow box. Gotta research that part of it too! I've often heard (mostly from my co-workers) that people who smoke weed are "lazy".....LOL, yeah....right! There's a lot of detail(s) and work you have to put into this! ;)
Looking forward to any links to a full kit (at a great price) for us Canucks.

Thanks!

I like that you want to just dive right into a 1000 watt. Just make sure you have some good ventilation. That one on ebay is good for the price imo. If price is no object get a nextgen 1000w ballast, and 1000whortilux bulb, and an air cooled reflector.

Not a matter of price not being an object; price always comes into play. It seems opinion(s) vary in terms of what is good and/or isn't (duh). I just want something that's all inclusive. Plug 'n GO.

Check out htgsupply.com. They have the best prices on lights and they all come with a great warranty and customer service.

I am still not sold on the digital ones. I have read about some of them catching on fire. One of the older members here (Al B. Fuct) swears by the magnetic ones and that is good enough for me. Good luck.

Apparently the ballast in the link I posted earlier is a "Digibrite".

Anybody know of how these Digibrite's fare????

If not, I think I'll go with the NextGen.

Hot diggity-dawg!!!!!! That's good enough for me!

You seem to have enough posts under your belt (in my opinion) to know what you're talking about. You've been around the green block once or twice....I am good to go.

Thank you. :hump:
