Nutrients

I was watching a video on how to grow and the person was using an eb and flow system. The guy sayd that if you need to add more water, add only water since the nutrients always stay in the soil. I was wondering. Was I supposed to only water my plants that are growing in soil once with nutrients and only water from there on out???

Ebb and flow is a hydroponic system - it has nothing to do with soil growing.

And no, you're not just meant to add nutrients once and then water - the plant does use those nutrients you know, and thats why you have to replace them. Also, continual plain water feeding has a leeching affect on what nutrients are existant in the soil and unless you replace them regularly, the plant will suffer nutrient deficiencies.

As a general rule of thumb, seedlings in good quality soil should not need any nutrient supplements to those existing in the soil for 3-4 weeks. In the next 3-4 weeks vegetative growth depending on how often you repot - you will need to supplment with nutrient feeding.
