Another story that has slipped through the cracks of liberal media. I want to first point out, I dislike fundamentalist and I do not condone what these people are doing. I find it disrespectful but I also find this a gateway to be used in other protest. The problem with knee jerk laws in the implications they hold down the line in other cases. Some questions to ask about this.....

Who in the the responsible person in charge that says something is offensive?
If you must wait two hours before and two hours after, how can that be called a protest?
Why is this law just for military personnel?
What about certain dress or attitude can that be offensive?

With the time constraints I don't see it passing as constitutional whats your thoughts?

I agree about what they're doing is sickening it takes one good lawyer to expand that to every protest and then what do we have?

i see no reason why this would be unconstitutional, every right is abridged.

of course, nontheist the sock puppet would be in favor of dog fucking if obama signed a law prohibiting it. so his indignance is not surprising.
Thats the difference between me and you...Im in favor of peoples right to fuck whatever they want, dogs included. Assuming its consensual. ;)

I see the risk of this spreading to other protests, but fuck those putos for real. I cant believe they call themselve people of God or that they would shit all over a soldiers funeral for any reason.

Even if the deceased was some sick crazy fuck that the whole world hated, the dude is dead why show up and make his friends and family feel worse than they already do? What exactly are they trying to accomplish?

Why can't they just make all military funerals private so to speak, and keep them completley out the cemetary for the entire service. I think the entire country would be willing to close their local cemetary in the times that a soldier need be buried just to ensure the protection of the family from pieces of shit like these protesters. That wouldn't be trampling anyones 1st, just be locking their ass out for a couple hours, let them protest at the gates cuz you can't completely stop them as fucked up as they are.

100% unconstitutional. The first amendment specifically prohibits ANY law that abridges the freedom of speech. The amendment doesn't give you the right to speak, it ties government hands from making laws prohibiting speech, obviously the people forgot what it was all about.

From now on they will start making laws prohibiting speech and religion and we will all just go along with it. Won't take too long and a redress of grievances will be a felony, along with protesting and speaking your mind. Dissidents will be imprisoned, free thinkers will be captured and washed.

Where in the constitution does it have an exception to guns if population is over a certain amount, like in NYC or DC, where guns are banned? So in 50 years when everywhere has that population density, all guns are banned everywhere?

This is how it all works. Most of the right pretends to be upset at Westboro, even though all westboro does is take their own belief system to it's conclusion. I imagine the ACLU will defend these folks against clearly unconsitutional legislation and the right will see this as an affront to religion.

I don't think so, I don't think they should close an entire cemetary to accomodate dead veterans. I know a couple of people who volunteer to attend such funerals in order to screen the participants from the church "protests". That works pretty well. So many are "for" smaller, less intrusive government until their sacred ox is gored, and then it is just fine that the Federal government is involved. I find this to be hypocricy at high concentration.

I did that once. not a single person got up from their seat, and no one got trampled.

Must have something to do with the fact that theater fires are so rare in this day and age that no one gives a fuck.

What was the last time there was a theater fire where people panicked and many died? 1836? Seems like a long time ago.

Don't worry folks, as long as we stop people from saying things we don't like, its all good!!!!

Brooklyn 1876; Uphaar (India) 1997 were some doozies.
And there was that Youtubed recent fire in a crowded club; a member lost a friend or relative there.

This ones for buck.

Hypocrisy*

Your comparison between someone wanting smaller government and someone against protesting someones goddamn death is quite stupid and incredibly distasteful. Protesting anyone's funeral whether they be service men or citizens is fucked up and should be outlawed. Period. The partisan hack strikes again.

How exactly is it stupid? You folks dont' want intrusive government until something offends you. "(fill in the blank) is fucked up and should be outlawed" is exactly my point. It all comes down to who is filling in the blank now doesn't it? I figure that letting the poor or the old starve is fucked up and should be outlawed but I suspect you would have none of that.

distasteful? sure, so what? I don't much believe in government arbitrating taste, do you?
