Police Make $478M Marijuana Bust in Atwater

Officers with the Mariposa and Merced county drug task force found a marijuana grow hidden in an eight acre corn field.

Officers with the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force who found the 47,800 marijuana plants on Saturday say that if they matured, they would have been worth $478 million.

Two men were arrested. The suspects remain in jail, with an immigration hold.

This is the second marijuana bust in the area this month. Authorities found a similarly sized operation in Madera on Aug. 18.

im with you. imagine how big of an area youd need. and how much money it would cost. seems sketchy

They are valuing the plants as if each one will produce at least 2-3 pounds of bud each. To get nearly 50,000 pot plants big enough to yield 3 pounds each on 8 acres is physically impossible, not too mention it was hidden by corn.
