Before the peyote cactus produces its magic it is usually at least 7-10 years old. It is a very specialist plant also that requires very defined weather and soil/sand conditions. So basically dont hold your breath.
hmmmm 10 years huh... didn't know that but i'm still down...
be specific on special..?
pretty hot where i live... a buddy of mine that i lost contact w/had one growin on his porch for a long while but we never got into a good conversation about it...
True story here! San Pedro and Peruvian Torch are great alternatives, and in some cases have a higher level of alkaloids than peyote. The appeal to peyote is the constant level of high that you'll get. You can do equally as good or better by growing your own lot of SP or PT cacti, taking cuttings and extracting the mesc.
Be kind to an endangered plant that has so much to offer!
Peyote can be grown to maturity in less than 2 years. I guess it could take 7-10 for a person not willing to learn more about cultivating this great medicine. There are grafting techniques that can produce flowers in less than 1 year. Also, I don't think you have to worry about the plant being endangered if you are ordering seeds from the Internet, just don't go picking it from the wild.
Try cactusplaza, they wont ship to the states though.
