Peltier effect coolers?

First off, apologies if this has been gone over before but the search tool is not working for me for some reason.

Has anybody tried using Peltier coolers for res chilling before? If so, did it work well? How did you do it?

The size of a peltier cooler required to cool any decent sized reservoir would not be efficient at all. You will be addint a lot of heat to your room that will require extra cooling and then some! Much better way to do it.

I have two 40 gal res's, if even set up so that the heat they generate is'nt in the grow area you don't think they'd do a very good job?
You can get a 100 watt cooler for about $10 plus a few for extra parts, I just don't know how much effective cooling that size of unit would give.

From Wiki:

Thermoelectric junctions are generally only around 10-15% as efficient as the ideal refrigerator (Carnot cycle), compared with 40–60% achieved by conventional compression cycle systems (reverse Rankine systems using compression/expansion).[SUP][5][/SUP] Due to this lower efficiency, thermoelectric cooling is generally only used in environments where the solid state nature (no moving parts, low maintenance, compact size, and orientation insensitivity) outweighs pure efficiency.

So I would choose a Carnot-cycle (standard) refrigeration device if it were me. cn
