Personal grow in apartment?

Hey, awesome forum!

I'm trying to do a personal grow. Was wondering what kinda setup and how many plants I'd need to get 1oz per month(or 2oz per 2month, 3oz per 3month etc)

Only got a 36"x36" closet available to grow in.

I'm in a small apartment with close neighbors. Kinda worried about the smell leaking out and reeking up the whole floor. Whats the best solution for smell?

Could anyone recommend a manageable strain that doesn't grow too tall or reek too much but still yields pretty well?

Is soil the way to go for a grow like this? I saw some Aerogarden threads and they looked cool for cheap hydro, but I guess people only really veg in Aerogardens. I'd need a setup that works well from seed until harvest.

I saw people like CFL, LED or MH lights for veg then HPS for flowering, is that right?

I'm a total noob at growing and I bet I'll suck hard the first time, but I'd really be grateful for any help and advice getting started. Thanks guys!

I know exactly how you feel. I'm growing personal supply in my own small apartment with close neighbors. I'm also growing in the same space as you. I have my first harvest coming up at the end of the month, and I'm estimating at least 4 ounces out of my 8 square foot area.

I'm using a 400 watt electronic switchable ballast (90 USD) and a home built aeroponics setup. Growing 8 plants. For the smell I'm using a homemade activated charcoal filter (there are tons of guides in the DIY section, give them a read). My strain right now is WW, which gets pretty tall, but you can just flower it when it's 1/3 as high as your growing space and it should stay manageable. A DWC setup would be good if you just want to grow a couple big plants rather than several smaller ones like me. There's a lot you can do in that kind of space. It's really only limited by what you can build. I managed to fit a complete aeroponics system in a 2'x4'x5' box.
