pH tester kit, good or bad?

Ok, I have a serious question that I need help with. I have been searching the Web, all that, trying to find answers. I can't find it.

Is an aquarium pH tester kit accurate to measure pH with on a plant?

When I tested the tap water with it, it read 6.8. Good. But when I measured it with FF Big Bloom, it said 7.2. And when I tested my runoff after watering with nutes, it said 7.8. So is the fact that the test is color coded messing it up? The water is no longer clear once I put the nutes in, or check runoff. So is the brownish color of the tested liquids messing it up? I have to know. I am almost to harvest, and I believe I am in pH lockout, but have no real clue if this test kit is accurate. I can't find a pH pen in my area at all. Closest one is 142 miles away in the big city. Help!

i have used this type of ph test, they can be very good, especially for the price
but heavily colored outflow can be a bit of a challenge, if its turbid, filtering may help
your water sounds pretty good, if you're near harvest and all is well, then you're probably dialed in

Thanks for the replies, you two. I think I will hold off on trying to use my aquarium one again, and just have to get a pH pen on payday. Seems like the best bet.
