Does anyone have any suggestions on a ph testing device? Theres alot of them out there , ive got a multi tester im not real sure it works worth the damn, ive looked at pens etc. are they something that can test liquid and soil as well? I know the one i have cant be put into liquid, it pings hardcore, i wanna be able to know where my ph is after i make their food...and im sure this question has been asked somewhere. Im just not sure how to work around this site yet

Probe-type meters usually need the soil to be very wet in order to get a reading, almost mud. More often than not, when someone says their meter isn't reading at all, the soil being tested isn't wet enough. It should be wet for at least an hour before testing so the pH's of the water and the soil have time to equalize.

As MIWay suggested, wideband pH drops can work well and can be found for around $6. To get a reading off soil with drops, you wet the soil normally and then wait at least an hour like with the meter. Then squeeze some liquid from the soil, either by pressing on the surface and collecting the runoff from the bottom or by grabbing a handful of soil and squeezing out the liquid.

I use a el cheapo pen from flebay and it works great. If you use ph water and a good nute line up the soil ph should be fine. Dont over complicate it. I do check the runoff every once and a while...
