Plant has split itself!?

So ya know how the plant is supposed to grow its two sets of leaves in intervals, the next layer opposite the last. Well my plant decided to grow four sets of leaves at one layer instead of two. Which has grown into it dividing itself as if I topped it. I realize this isn't necessarily a BAD thing but it has made for one crowded top.

Should I just let it go and see what happens? My main question is why would it decide to do this???

2.5 weeks old btw.

it'll be fine, the crowding will subside as they both reach for light.

Just let it do its thing. I have seen this happen naturally before. It has to have something to do with genetics I assume.
