Poppin' my cherry! :-)

So i started my first attempt at gardening. I ordered some Jack Herer from GHS (the one i decided to use germed no problem) and I got a free G13 labs OG13 (MK Ultra renamed?) seed. Since I've only observed SOME of the steps required, I'm doing as much reading as I can. I use the shroomery as my encyclopedia for other cultivation info ;-)

I decided to save 4 of the Jack seeds in case I come across a good indoor situation later in the season, as I'm pretty confident in my ability to get the two seeds I DID start to yield well. I downloaded some app on the android with a wealth of info for a field guide, and basically only used it for the germ stage. Now that I'm past there, I decided I better join the community. After a couple days the taproot from both seeds was about 1-2cm long, so I decided to put them in 2" square pots. They spent about 3-4 days in a big clearing in my woods, and had yet to break ground. Right when my family vacated for a week, I decided to bring them to the house where they could be watched and cared for closely until I transplant.

Over the course of this week, they not only broke ground, but are about to form their second set of leaves. I can already see the crystals all over them, especially the OG13. The leaves have frosted tips. I know everyone is gonna have something to say about my soil mix and nutes, but hey, its working great so far. The cannabis plant is surprisingly resilient, I had the idea to keep them up higher to maximize sun exposure and accidently knocked the Jack sprout over. It dumped out somewhat, but i just carefully replanted the roots and made sure all was well, and it has since recovered and is now taller than the OG13. I know idiots who have started with a seed and ended blowing out a hit, so I'm nowhere near as nervous trying this as i was with spores. For the germed seeds, i used some organic potting soil as a base, added a decent bit of blood meal, a small amount of perlite (probably unnecessary at this stage) and some good mulch to top it off. Its lacking some things i see in all the soil mixes, but hey, the little guys are growin quick.

For the transplant pots, i have two 12" pots with 50+% high quality topsoil (i know the pH isnt acidic from pine needles or anything, it was from a new home construction in a field so if anything its got nutes already), 25% organic potting mix, >10% water control potting mix, and big old dump of perlite. I was afraid I used too much at first, but once i mixed it well and pre-watered them it disappeared. After it dried (i over watered them accidently) i mixed it up and it doesnt seem like there are any clumps-- the roots should have no problems ripping through it. I am about to add blood meal before I remix and rewater them; for a 12" pot how much blood meal should i be using? It seems like you have to almost try to screw up plants, but that may be because I'm used to the constraints and requirements for fungi production.

Anyway, the second set of leaves (not including cotelydons obviously) will be much more visible after another day in the sun. From everything I've read, its stupid to shock your plants and transplant them over and over-- once the second set of leaves are easier to see I think I'm going to transplant them into their homes. Don't bother telling me to do it incrementally, I know that makes no sense. I don't want my roots running into the walls of the pots constantly, I just want to be sure putting a 3" tall sprout into a large pot after 2 weeks of growing in the sun isnt going to be detrimental. The final grow site isnt too hard for me to get to, so watering isnt an issue. There is a nice size stream/river across the road from the mountain we own, and I've been watering the babies with room temp bottled water up until now to avoid the crap in our public water systems.

I'm goin out for a cig now, I'll walk over and snap some pics of Jack an G to put up. Please refrain from flaming and all that, I about left the shroomery over trolls and negativity and my fungi were FUN GUYS. just sayin, the whole point is happiness and positive energy is it not? any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance fellow farmers :eyesmoke:

Transplanting seedlings will result in about a weeks loss of growth. Wait til theyre about 3 weeks old.

And cigarettes will kill you.

alright im back, it took a lot longer than i thought. i got sucked into watching star trek TNG with my chick until she passed out. here are a few pics i just took.

G-13 Labs OG13 (about +12 maybe +14)

Jack (same time frame as above)
SAM_0915.jpgSAM_0925.jpg

the Jack plant is off center from falling at night, when i re-potted it i wasn't exactly sober. it has definitely recovered and is as strong as the OG. I figured it won't make that much difference when it'll be in a 12" pot in a week or less. why does it make that big of a difference waiting to transplant? i was told i could have just put the germed seedlings into the final pot from the gate, but i wanted to start them in small 2" pots so i could move them easily while i prepared everything else. nobody wants to lug around a huge pot full of dirt more than they have to.

from the strain research ive done so far, it looks like JH and OG13/MKU both respond well to LST. I plan on topping the plants when they grow up to 5 nodes or so, then doing it again once it recovers to try for 4 main colas. is it too much stress on the plant to supercrop at the same time? If so would topping it once then supercropping once its recovered be safer? one other thing, am I right in thinking G13 Labs just took an existing strain (OG Kush x G13 = Master Kush Ultra) and renamed it for marketing purposes? all the reading ive been doing about LST and how the strain responds is on MKU-- looks to me like G13 Labs is just confusing things and trying to make new growers excited about a cross that has already been very successful.

yeah yeah cigs will kill you. car crashes will too. and fire. and drowning. at least when i die i cant fill everyone's ears with complaining about how its not fair, cuz... it is. you reap what you sow in every aspect of life my friends ;-)

edit: one quick question: on the box of blood meal it says 2lb per 100 sq. ft., which comes out to something like a third of an ounce for one sq. foot. that sounds like almost none. does cannabis fall into this allotment category, or should use more?
