The bud in my avatar was grown in a very small pot of right around 2 quarts.
Do an archive search on this site for a thread by fdd titled It's All Bullshit as there are quite a few wives tale myths & half truths debunked in the thread & root bound is one of them, for a new grower or a grower who's skills are still developing it's a very informative thread & a thread i learned much from.
I grow using flood & drain tables nowdays but im still a hydro noob, the bulk of my experience is in larger scale indoor soil grows where floor space translated in plant count & smaller pots meant more floor space for more plants blah blah blah & so on.
I believed for 30 plus years that i needed large pots for my grows until i read the thread i mentioned then it all made sense,a plants root system only needs to be large enough to deliever needed amounts of water & nutes to the plant, after that it's wasted space that could be hosting another plant,if grown properly weed plants have a very short life span where root system size is nearly irrelevant .
Small pot's can & will produce extremely high yeilding plants that are in the best of health as long as the grower understands that watering & feeding schedules will need to be more frequent to make up for the lost root structure.
Im not on my pc & cant post pics from my blackberry but if you visit photobucket you can see my album where i have pics of several of my rooms full of large plants in 1.5 quart pots as well as pic's of the size bud's i was harvesting off the plant's.
As allready correctly mentioned here by another member lighting is most likely your problem as lighting is the most impotant factor in any grow, weak lighting will allways produce small buds that are very fluffy vs strong & proper hps lighting will produce larger buds that are dense & rock hard, growing weed can be accomplished with cfl but will never produce fantastic results with newer growers.
Use small pots, water & feed more often but most importantly ditch the cfl's & get a proper hps lighting of 600 wats or larger asap.
