potting on

can i start autos in peat pots with soil in & transplant the peat pot into a bigger pot after say 2 weeks
or should i use small plant pots for 2 week then pot on

There seems to be two schools of thought on this. The school I'll be prescribing to after this grow is the single transplant into the plant's "forever home". For this grow (it being my first and having low expectations I started in smaller pots and am going to have to do a second transplant. From all the reading I've done it seems both method's work and come down to a matter of preference.
