Practical Advice for Next Step in Lighting

Quite.

End of discussion. Hopefully people will make their own minds up about who's talking shit and who isn't.

I have no interest in entering into any further discussion with you on this or any other subject.

Have a nice day.

You are not answering the question.

You said the warranty's were the same. Now that you have googled and found out you made a mistake, show some balls and admit you were wrong.

I do not like mis-information. I do not like having to pull anyones pants down to make them look bad. I am here to help because I have a shitload of experience and practical hands on knowledge and I am one smart mother fucker. I do not know it all but I know my shit very very well and do not pull punches. I am direct and to the point.

If I see something which is not right, I will call it out because this stuff is not as hard as some make it seem nor do I appreciate anyone not telling the truth. Everyone makes mistakes and you just pulled a boner yet do not show the stones to admit your mistake. Too bad. Sit and pout for all I care. The truth is that posters can now see the fucking warranty's are not the same as you claimed. The warranty's tell a story themselves by fucking reading them. If that is too harsh for you, too bad.

ok, so i know nothing about this stuff but it seems to me that digital definately saves some power and even if it does make bulbs last longer the end of their life span is still not as good as when they are new so who cares. right?

next, if i want to abuse and kill people with my ballast i should get a magnetic one, because it will have a 5 year full warranty and they are more reliable in a harsh environment. right?

You are pretty much on it with the logic except for the "saves power" sales pitch.

The fight back test I spoke of were real. No cost savings to speak of really with the digi's.

Here was another comment which came up during the tests I just remembered as being funny and an "oh shit moment !!!".

The dude running the tests mentioned there was a small fan and vents for the fans on some of the digi ballasts and ........

So I asked him "and what" ???? ....

He said "well it is a fan and dust can get at it and it is mechanical and" .....

..... and we left it at that.

You decide.

Sometimes moisture gets around my ballasts when watering or sometimes even peeing drunk outside - the arc would be a biitch...

There are more red flags but I have to think about it some more and recall what was discussed after it was all said and done.

well, i wouldn't take the power bill from a place of business to be an accurate piece of evidence but because i do like electronic stuff to be durable and reliable with the least amount of care i'd prob go with the magnetic ballast unless the digital offers a lot of control, options and flexibility.

if there's more cost, i would expect digital to have built in timers, wattage adjustment, gadgety stuff like that which generally gives me a woody...

somewhere down the road i can see a growth system that continuously monitors your growing environment and makes adjustments for you, nutes, pH, temp, lumens, etc...digital ballasts are prob the bronze age for this advancement.

Magnetic ballasts for those "in the know" use them exclusively.

There are Controllers and monitors to do exactly what you are suggesting and even have links to your computer in the house. The software is out there.

wow, i had no idea, but i guess if i can imagine it someone smarter has prob already done it. that sounds interesting; me and my earth, wind and fire...hmmm. :)

Garden Protection Controls

The controller above was being used with computer software. Nutes schedules and feeding were automated as well but this controller does not handle that function, it is handled by a computer and servo motors for dispensing whatever.

I have never seen a set-up totally automated set-up anywhere but I have read about them. Lots of $$$$....

It appears Babygro is pouting and got caught lying and has no answer for her claims that ballast warranty's are equal between the digitals and magnetic ballasts.

Hey chaulk one up for the "good guys" of credible information. bongsmilie

Thank you to all that have replied. I think I am now armed with enough information to ask intelligent questions at the shop. I do have a follow up question, but I'll make another thread since for convenience.
