So i understand it is so simple to wire a hps ballast to a computer power cable (it was an hps flood light from ebay) but my problem is that the colors on my power cord do not match with the ballast. little help---
From the HPS colors : WHITE, GREEN, BLACK
From my Power Cord: BLACK, BLUE, (Black/YELLOW)

any help?:leaf:

uuppp. tried googling it, i cant figure out what this black/yellow wire is that is within the 3 prong cable.

white= common
Black=hot
Green=ground

pretty standard in wirering the other colors are nuthin need to trace the one wire to the third prog the round one normally the bottom on the out let, and the the black should be the big side and the othe will be white or what whoul be white.
got it.

Black is generaly hot. blue and white are neutral(white is usa,blue is europe) and green(usa) or green with yellow is ground. I have never seen a black/yellow before. do you have a continuity meter?

If it were me i would hook up the blacks to each other, the white with the blue, and the green with the black/yellow.... but than again i would check with a meter first

whoops had that wrong white is the big side on the the outlet i always get confused because in my world i would have done it that way.

im sure your black with yellow is a green with yellow so it a ero color plug code so it should go

black to black

white to blue

green to green anf yellow looks blackand yellow

be safe

get a 12 guage or smaller (smaller guage =bigger wires)power cord at home depot, your ballast will fail prematurely with too small a power cord

thank you for all of your responses but i was too eager to await an answer so i did some trial and error on my own. i stripped the black that i knew was ground and i was on a mission to find which one was nuetral. so i plugged in the cord with the black wire taped to a table lamp inlet and the black/yellow wire on the other inlet and there was a spark which shut down my breaker, so i knew the other one was neutral. and after all of this i realized i needed a larger gauge...grr/

don't decide by the colors. look at the ballast where the wires are coming from, there must be a ground sign, it looks like 3 dashes and maybe you could see + and - on the other 2 wires. if you're still unsure, ask an electrician
