problems starting seeds in aerogarden

hey guys i just got my aerogarden pro 200 and i took the original italian seeds they came with and took out the seeds and just threw in some herb seeds. For some reason my seeds are sprouting but they are quickly dying, it seems like the taproot cant find a place to dig in. take a look at the picture, what can i do? it looks like they sprout but tehy are quickly dying when it comes to plant comin out of the seed

do you think it has anything to do with me putting zero nutrients in the water yet? thanks

The water maybe? Distilled or bottled drinking water.

I usually stick a hole all the way thru the sponges but not big enough for the seeds to fall through. even then sometimes the roots will get turned around you just have to watch for it and correct it when it happens.and no nutes for seedlings for at least 10 days though i go 12 days then easy on the nutrients. hope this helped. Yea i cut the sponges in half, then i poke a hole thru so the tap root can find its way easier

im using distilled water, do you think its becuase i just threw the seed on the top of the soil? thanks

Yea you should have put it with the tap root facing down
